City of North Las Vegas image
The city of North Las Vegas was the fastest growing city in all of the USA last year. In the past it had/has an image problem. An overlooked part of the valley, sharing a ghetto with Las Vegas in the center part of the valley and an ugly downtown. However, over the last 5-7 years change could not have happened any faster. At the northern part of the city (NLV), we have master planned communities with golf courses and lush landscaping.
Shadow Creek Golf course (owned by Steve Wynn) is rated in the top five in the WORLD!
The area around Losee and Centennial is near the geographical center of the city boundaries and is expected to be booming with shops and densely populated areas. A Kohl's store just opened recently and access to the beltway is to be made easier in the near years.
A major veteran's hospital, a bigger UNLV campus, and massive casinos are being planned near the northern beltway.
Any of you still think NLV still has an image problem? Would you live there?

i definitely think there is still an image problem (whether it still deserves it or not)....i don't usually hear people speak highly of it.
but i might consider living there it if i worked up that way. have driven through some decent looking areas while looking for other stuff. i think it is kinda like the down town area...hit or miss. the really sketchy rough looking stuff seem to be in the south part of NLV (closer to downtown).
when i was looking for house before moving out here, there were a number of nice looking rentals up there....but i never went and looked at the areas or rentals as they were further away than i wanted to be from work. so i don't really have a good feel for the flavor of it.

Northtown is the area that is most commonly know for being very Ghetto, Dirty and Rough, however anything beyond that is actually quite beautiful. I have many friends living in the areas around Rainbow, Craig, Cheyenne, & Anne Rd. I actually considered buying a house there a couple of years back (ended up settling in henderson). I might add that 215 & Cheyenne is fairly new and absolutly beautiful and a stones throw from the mountain.

North Las Vegas isn't bad. I've been on a few ride alongs downtown with NLVPD and let me tell you, Las Vegas's downtown is worse. I'm actually considering working for NLVPD.
Live there??? No, I'm happy where I'm at on Black Mountain. I've never been crazy about policing the same city I live in. Especially after the death threats I recieved against my family in Denver. I lived in Denver and policed Denver... Never again.

I live in the new part of NLV next to the beltway in Aliante.
I did check out the Kohls in the newer NE part, and it was like going to the twilight zone. A Kohls in the middle of the desert...ok, on the edge with nothing else around it. I'm sure it will eventually be all built up around it.

That's exactly the part with the image problem: Northtown. It is a world away from the newer area's, and the new area's are Summerlin like in looks. It's also safe to go out at night alone without any worry about being mugged or worse.
What bugs me is when people keep trashing the newer parts of NLV and keep whining about how terrible it always was 10 years ago, etc, etc. Where I live it didn't even exist 5 years ago, they just started developing it then.
I like where I live and will probably stay here for many more years or until an asteroid or nuclear threat wipes out vegas.
