Not a "by the book" event, no doubt, but interesting to note.
That is one thing good about Las Vegas -- service people here always try to help customers. I had the same experience, and an airport checkpoint person (probably TSA) near the C/D pathway divider checked my boarding pass and let me through with his badge.

But I still don't understand why they block the pathway in the secured area between C/D.

This problem has been fixed. It is now possible to go all the way from Concourses A through E without having the leave a secure area. On a recent trip, I was able to go through security in Concourse E and escort a friend to her Alaska Airlines flight before taking a train to Concourse D, then taking another train to the main terminal and taking yet a third train to my Southwest Airlines gate on Concourse C. Had I wanted to, I could have walked to Concourse B and then A without leaving security. (I expected to be turned away at the Concourse E security checkpoint, but the TSA agent merely mentioned that I had a long way to go to get to my flight, but otherwise had no problem with my passing security at the "wrong" terminal.)

I wanted to go to a store in the D gate area but I'm flying Southwest. Can someone confirm I can go through security at D and then take a train to C without a problem? How exactly should I do that? Thanks.

It's been about five months since I've flown out out of McCarran, but last time I did, they had rearranged the D gates security checkpoint. The former single line for the C gate tram was converted over to a TSA Pre line, and now the same gates were now used for both C and D gate trams. So there was no barrier between the C and D gate tram departures, as people going through security could be destined for either set of gates.

Maybe someone can confirm that this is still how the security checkpoint is configured. I'm a little surprised they did this, because it means a security breach at one checkpoint shuts down both set of gates, instead of just one. If you can wait about ten days, I could tell you the current configuration.

Back when there was a barrier between the two, you could explain to a TSA agent and they'd let you through. This was common for travelers who wanted to use a lounge at the D gates, but were flying on WN. The same explanation had to be given to go through D gate security with a WN boarding pass.

From the map, A B and C are all open to each other on T1. D has a pathway to T1 via the tram, but it won't let you in the secured area of A B or C.
Is this a joke. If not it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

a) That's a three year old post
b) Last time I went through there it was reconfigured so there was no separation between the tram to the C and the tram to the D gates
c) A sensible reason for the barrier is so that a security breach at one checkpoint affects the fewest number of gates

Just last night some drunk guy breached security by running into a secure area though one of the exits.

Confirmed - the security checkpoint for the trams to C and D gates are still configured as described in post #26 and there is a big unmonitored open door between the C and D gate trams, allowing you to pass back and forth freely.
