With your degree you should not have difficulty landing a job. Pay may not be comparable to what you are getting in CT but give it a try. Casino is cash business, whether you get a job as a cage cashier, counting money in the back room or a Pit supervisor, your accounting degree will surely come in handy. In town, it's who you know and not what you know but don't let it stop you from moving here.

Well, maybe you are mistaken about my career. My experience is in corporate tax accounting (no clients). I was making $69K here in CT. So I'm expecting to find a job that pays about $65K in LV. Counting money or cashiering is not my career lol. But it seems like there are barely any corporations in Las Vegas. Just a bunch of casinos.

What do you think?

You are willing to work retail for starters but you are not willing to work as a cashier or a back room count clerk. End of discussion!!

Weather? = not a problem... not nearly as bad as some people say
Gay? = not a problem... lots of gay-friendly stuff here, most don't care
No-job? = PROBLEM!

Make sure you have a job lined up BEFORE you get out here. It will make your experience 1000x better if you have steady income right off the bat. Don't think that scraping by with a retail salary is going to lead to something more... at least not quickly.

Yeah right. Who are you kidding? Its 90+ degrees at midnight for 2 months in Vegas. Vegas used to be cooler at night and noticeably cooler than Phoenix Jun-Aug, but its hardly a difference anymore with the heat island effects. Just look at the averages. I know we'll all start to hear about how much higher the humidity is in Phoenix which is oveblown, but its all just the usual excusing away the heat of Vegas. Face it, its hot and bordering on miserably hot for 3 months. Everyone knows it and gets as used to it as they can, but saying oh its no big deal is a joke.

You're expecting to only take a 5% paycut going from Connecticut to Las Vegas?

Very doubtful.

Okay, fine. Let's be HONEST. At 6% humidity, that 90-degrees feels no worse than 78-80 in any other part of the country.

Truth.

Huh?

Firstly, casinos are corporate entities with accounting departments, IT, HR, etc. Citibank has a major presence here, in the Lakes area, I believe. Zappos / Amazon, Switch communications, Cleveland Clinic, CDW, Humana, United Healthcare, etc. all have a presence here.

The summers are quite hot, unpleasantly so, in my opinion.

There are plenty of outdoor activities, including hiking, skiing, year-round softball leagues, etc. There are plenty of gay people here, and gay clubs and such but as LVOC said, no one cares. It's kind of a mind-your-own-business sort of town. You should visit and form your own opinion.
