So I am here full time SIX MONTHS, but my car is here ONE YEAR.
and it's time to do a renewal.

For my 2007 Honda Element (new was 23k) the breakdown is this:

Smog Check; $17
Reg Fee; $33.00
Gov Tax; $32.00
More Tax; $128.00
Personalized plates (Macgeek) $20.00

Total Fees $230.00

Was able to do the FULL renewal with a smog test, and then everything else online.

Jonathan

I will be at the DMV this weekend doing the same dance. I cant register online or at the kiosk because of the Non-resident tax exemption affidavit I have to physically bring to them every year. Total comes to about $400 but $367 is waived.

$33 :-)

Maybe I will go get a Maserati or Range Rover. Price will still be the same.

Just went through that also 2008 Subaru Legacy $280.00 plus smog. Went to the DMV on W.Shara had to have inspection done then waited almost 3 hours for the plates Take a number and wait. I never saw a DMV with a snack bar so I figured that was a clear warning of the wait. I am surprise they do not have slot machines in there also. lol. Now next year I can do the same as Mac thank god for the internet So my advise to any new people moving here when you go to the DMV bring a good book and be ready to wait.

Yes, active duty. Guard and Reserves don't get the exemption.
