Hello,

I'm trying to move back to Las Vegas and pursuing a front desk job at one of the big hotel and casinos. I'm young 21, but also have 3 years experience working front desk/night audit at a Best Western in New Mexico. We are also the biggest Best Western In New Mexico 300 Rooms. I'm very passionate about what I do, and feel like I could be a major asset to one of the companies. I Flew down for a interview at the Luxor, I felt like it went great, but haven't heard anything back. So what i'm asking is do I need more expierence or schooling? Is my Age affecting me??

Maybe even a third or fourth also. It wont hurt plus it would definitely increase your chances, I would think. When friends or family come to visit with someone who doesn't speak English OR Spanish there is always someone who is still able to communicate in the person's native language. One of my old supervisor's wife works at a desk job at Mandalay Bay somewhere(not sure where). He told me his wife only got hired because she speaks German and Dutch.

The Strip is international.

The more you can do to separate yourself from the competition, the better. You obviously have some skills, but so will many, many other applicants. Anything you can do that they can't - including speaking multiple languages - will make you a more attractive candidate.

I went for a group interview a few weeks ago.
Out of about 20 of us , I'd say 8-10 of them were applying for front desk work.
One lady there said she spoke 5 different languages.
When she pointed it out originally, all of the interviewers jotted it down on their paper.
Other people spoke--and nothing at all was written down.
OF COURSE she got called back for a second interview.
Others got the "thank you and feel free to apply again" line.
That front desk job has a ton of competition.
PLUS---your young and don't work in Vegas....that can't help.
This lady was in her 40s and was currently employed here.

I repeat, [ad nauseum] If ya wanna work in LV ya gotta BE in LV....

Best Western experience is the same as no experience....you might try a Best Western....then try applying in a smaller Casino/Hotel....make yourself indespensible and hope that when someone move up into another larger place that they remember you .....
