There are a lot of people who have convinced themselves of that but it's not as easy at it sounds.

Yes, there was one a block from my house a while back. And they have two dogs that slept right through it.

This is something you never know until it happens.

Gunfire in Summerlin
There have been a lot of these over the years. My first year in town the DA gave a guy a medal for blowing two burglars away with a shotgun. They were in his house, but one was half way through the window and ended up outside.

Personal opinion #2 NO person should purchase a weapon of any kind unless he/she had thought long and hard about weather or not they are prepared to Kill someone when the draw the weapon, because if you are NOT, that person is going to take that weapon away from you and shove it where the sun dont shine and pull the trigger.

That being said, I own a weapon and have absolutely no problem drawing it and using it.
Reminds me of what the rangers in Jellystone NP tell people who illegally carry guns in the park for bear defense. They say to file off the front sights so that when the bear shoves it up your a** it won't hurt as bad.

I am in favor of being required to take a course and pass a test in order to carry a gun, but I feel the same way about driving a car. The only thing wrong with that is that someone will be keeping tabs on you. So my feelings are mixed. And I think you should be able to take your gun anywhere in the U.S.

Tell me what I'm missing here:

Positives of open carry:
- Deterrence factor: Actively displaying a gun may dissuade a robber or other attacker from even trying.
- Ease of access. No cover garment to deal with.

Negatives of open carry:
- Makes you a target: Guns are valuable and easily saleable on the black market. Knowing you have a gun, robbers can compensate, get the drop on you and get your gun.
- Gives up element of surprise: similar to above, if a robbery does develop around you, the robbers see that you're armed, and can compensate. If the gun doesn't deter them, you're now the priority target to neutralize, before you even know what's happening.
- Negative Law Enforcement Interactions: Yes we know open carry is legal in NV. Not all the cops have gotten the memo, or care. Open carrying ensures any interaction with the cops will be tense. In addition, you're guaranteed more LE interaction, because panicked civilians will be calling man with a gun calls into 911.
- May be denied access to certain properties where someone carrying concealed would not have a problem. There are places that may not want you carrying a gun on their property, but if the don't know, they don't know. You're advertising the fact.

My idiot brother-in-law recently purchased a gun and started open carrying. He got angry in a doctors office and an angry man shouting while armed means no more services, ever, so now his family has to look for a new doctor. Also, the moron actually lost the gun. He has no idea where. I'm hoping if the damned thing is used in the commission of a crime, they'll lock him up for criminal stupidity.

People like him are the reason we have gun laws. I wish we could just ban idiots.

don't just go buy a gun. go to the range a few times and rent pistols and shoot 50 to 100 rounds at paper targets. find out if you enjoy shooting. after trying four or five guns, figure out which one you like and then 1.) buy a safe and then 2.) buy the gun.

a remington 870 shotgun is ideal to engage burglar/potential rapist/murderers.

People like pump shotguns for home defense, but their really obsolete. An AR pattern carbine is a much better HD long gun.

Then you simply call the police to scrape him off your lawn or walls whatever.
And they will arrest you for several felonies.

"Booby traps" are very, very illegal.
