If you have to ask if you should buy a gun for your home..then you probably don't need one...If you needed one you would have one.

This is wrong. You don't need one till you need one RIGHT NOW, and you'll never know when that may be. And by the time you get to that point it's too late.

You need to get a gun (and learn how to use it) when you DON'T need it, so you'll have it when you need it.

And people with guns in the house are three times more likely to get shot in the first place. A lot of people in this town/nation have no business having firearms -- whack jobs, morons and criminals for instance.

Everyone arming themselves to the teeth isn't a solution. It's the problem.

Criminals are the problem not law abiding citizens owning guns.

Five-year olds shooting each other because their parents are colossally stupid is part of the problem. People who go off their meds and have an arsenal at home are part of the problem. There are lots of parts to this problem. And criminals are only one part of it.

Google a video, "stupid people with guns." Then try to envision a laugh track while you watch it.

Years ago, I used to work graveyard shift and had to walk through a vast parking lot in an unsafe area to get to work.

I lived with a gun collector at the time and considered taking one of his guns with me to work at night (properly permitted with a CCW, of course). The reason I decided not to was because I figured if I ever pulled that weapon, I'd probably either hesitate, and it would be taken from me and used against me, or I wouldn't hesitate and would end up accidentally shooting a coworker playing a prank or something.

That said, I used to go to the range at Shooters in Spring Valley and enjoyed it. The people that worked there seemed very knowledgeable, and if I were to ever buy a gun (not happening) that's where I would head for advice.

1. Always treat every firearm as if it is loaded.
2. Never point your firearm at something you don't intend to destroy.
3. Never place your finger on the trigger (or inside the trigger guard) until you're ready to fire.
4. Know your target and what is beyond.

If you condition yourself to religiously do those three things, you will never experience an accidental shooting.
