You could try looking at a map instead of asking for the impossible. And at least you can get what you want -- there IS a wooded, mountainous area in our back yard.

What's wrong with Mt. Charleston? It is cool and wooded. And it's less than an hour away. Really, what is it lacking?

Your best bet is to become interested in Mt. Charleston.

It doesn't exist. Go to Tahoe if you are sick of Charleston and stop wasting people's time by trolling city data.

The best place to go to meet your requirements would be southern Utah. When you live in a place of such vast open space, driving 3 hours is nothing. Zion National Park is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It's only 3½ hours. The little town of Springdale, UT, has everything you could want. You could go up to Duck Creek Village near Navajo Lake and get away from it all. There are trees and lakes and mountains near St. George, UT, that would probably meet your requirements. You can base in St. George and go from there, or go to various lakes around there and camp. Caliente, NV, has trees, fishing, camping. It's 150 miles north. Or keep going a little ways to Eagle Valley Reservoir. You can go south to Big Bear Lake in Cal. They've already caught the rouge policeman that was shooting people so it's all good now. They have cabins, a nice lake, a nice town, and skiing too.

There are all kinds of places to go near here, just not an hour away. Get used to taking long drives in the southwest. But when you don't see another car for 100 miles it doesn't matter. You'll discover that there are hundreds of nice places to go to and enjoy the out doors within 4 hours or less of Las Vegas.

BTW: Just curious, why are you not interested in Mt. Charleston?
