In 10 days I'll hop in my sedan filled with essentials with my bf and we will drive from SF to LV. We have a few apartments picked out and we are hoping to tour them and sign a lease for immediate move in in 3 days. We will be staying at a cheap hotel during that time. Then bf will fly back to SF, load up a rental truck with everything else we have, and drive to LV for the final move in.

I have mediocre credit (600) but its from a limited history (new cards), too many hard pulls, and a high balance. BF has a great credit (800) and we both have a great rental history. He is a freelance dj and I am an independent contractor at a club in LV (have already worked 2 weeks there) and I have a very high income but its all in cash. I can ask my manager to write a letter of recommendation stating I make that income.

1) So given that neither one of us has a job with a paycheck proving income, will it be difficult to get approved and sign a lease immediately?

2) I have a big bug phobia so I'd like to get the apartment professionally sprayed before we move in. Does anyone have recommendations for the type of spray or a company? My biggest concern is spiders, especially around the balcony and parking area. I've heard LV has a bad spider problem.

3) Does anyone recommend a good company to rent a truck where we can pick up in SF and drop off in LV? We arent bringing a kot of furniture, just a lot of clothes, books, personal items, and kitchen stuff. we will refurnish in lv.

2- I spray using the pressurized pump style bottles from Home Depot. Cheap and effective. It is indoor/outdoor but I only spray the outside perimeter, works great. There is also a user here named Bug Bully; professional and priced reasonably.

3- Penske > UHaul. Search online for deals. Besides cheaper, the Penske fleet is maintained well. Uhaul has trucks that are not mechanically sound for city use, let alone the freeway.

I second Penske. That's who I used when I moved here. They were significantly cheaper than anyone else, and the truck was in good shape.

Welcome to LV! You'll fit in well here. No, seriously. And please buy a house ASAP.

thanks for the advice! And I'd love to buy a house but I doubt I could get a loan and my bf won't cosign so I'd have to wait to save it all up....which I'm not sure is reasonable.

We are booking Penske right now, with the limited liability coverage, and a hand truck the total is $650 for a 16 foot truck so that seems pretty good to me.

But I'm sure I am waaaaay off about the OP's profession.

I'll take dancers who work, over people who sit around collecting government benefits any day...plus they usually have much better legs.

Rent one-way from Budget Rent a truck. Once you have signed a lease on your new apartment, go online to the US Post Office & fill out a change of address. Once you do this, a follow-on screen will give you coupons, one of which is for Budget.

Under no circumstances rent from U-Haul. See, for example, the LA Times 3-part story on problems with U-Hauls maintenance procedures that have led to equipment failures on the road resulting in death, dismemberment & numerous lawsuits.

I've used Budget successfully for a dozen trips from Silicon Valley to Las Vegas, to Park City, and back.

Penske truck rental is also very good but more expensive.
