I had open heart surgery in 1961 and am healthy (although if you listen to my Dr. I am not as healthy as he thinks I should be), strong and able to do almost anything I want....

I wish you luck and not knowing the Drs. or hospitals in LV, I am sure you will do just fine...

Remember it is not only the Dr. and hospital staff that that help you live it is the patient themselves more times than not.....

The ppo offered through our company is terrible. It only pays 40%, i am thankful for what I had. Six months from now, I am going to contemplate what to do about Catherine King. I would have been dead if I listened to her.

I failed to mention that the arch and root were able to be repaired with grafts from my legs.

I would so HIGHLY recommend Nancy Donahoe for any cardiac/lung surgery.

The staff at Summerlin was EXCEPTIONAL (except for missing my dinners)...

and i truly believe a miracle has happened.

Only bad thing that I found out today is that I have been turned down for home care, so I don't know how I am going to get to the doctors.. but give it 2 weeks and i'll be driving. I just need to figure out how to disengage the airbag in my Honda Element.

I truly want to thank everyone here for their prayers and thoughts... and a shout out to lvoc and tadtam for coming to visit me.... It meant alot. This board has been inspirational to me.

It is really important to have a doctor that listens and makes you feel better about everything. I've been fortunate to have a GP and a cardiologist that I'm glad to see because they make me feel like I'm not about to die just yet. My EP is very cautious, but even he has lightened up. Hang in there and I'd stick with Dr. Miceli. Although you didn't say, it sounds like you have an HMO. If that is true, I'd recommend you pay the extra premium and get insurance that lets you find your own doctors. It's worth it, believe me. Been through the HMO nightmare. Should have sued.

But you are on the mend, and in two weeks I'd think the heart would be mended, and in six weeks the sternum should be too. Then you can go clubbing.

I also hope your wife is OK. Can't believe the insurance would turn down treatment for her.
My wife is doing ok, 2 surgeries and radiation. She had the 1yr mammo and it showed a spot but it ended up being benign and probably was from the surgery.

Airics one of your doctors needs to call your insurance company and appeal the decision denying you home health care. We never take no for an answer when we know our patients truly need something.

You should file a formal complaint with the Nevada board of nursing against the NP. I would also notify your insurance company. They may want to consider removing her from their participating provider panel.

Airics, if they turned you down for home health, see if your insurance will cover Medi-Car to get you to the doctor's office for your follow up care. I agree with the poster who recommended appealing the decision on the home health.

Coumadin of course, is a blood thinner, and those levels need to be monitored. You should contact your insurance company and become a full time pain in the ass until they do something for you.

Just don't get stressed out over it. I'm convinced that stress is at least 75 or 80% of my present heart problems.

Ask your doctor to set you up with the home test for Pro Time/INR (Coumadin levels). I go to Quest for mine and probably not often enough, but get tired of needles. I sent back the home test because I just didn't think I could follow the instructions and be connected to the company on a regular basis, but I probably shouldn't have sent it back.

Wednesday I have a medical test, then I'll have to go daily for at least two months for a procedure, so wouldn't be a reliable lift for you. But probably could take you once in a while, and between all of us here we can get you to the doctor.

Agreed on the stress. Make a game out of dealing with the insurance company. Be really sweet and explain that you have lots of time on your hands right now and you'd love to chat with them all day.

If you need a ride to the doctor or the lab, I can try and help out too. Since you don't want to be subjected to the airbag, you could sit in the backseat of my car.

It's funny; I'm just the opposite when it comes to needles. I'm on Coumadin permanently due to a hereditary blood disorder and I have to get my PT/INR checked every 10-14 days. I hate doing the finger prick test so I have a standing order at LabCorp for them to draw blood 2-3 times/month.
