Hello all,

Hopefully someone here can help, I've looked all over and can not find the answer.

I am installing a new water softener myself (already have the loop) and I know that I need to get a permit from the city, which I have done.

What I am trying to figure out is what is required for the permit? I am assuming drainage is an issue, but we have a built in drain installed by the home builder for that. What else do they want to see?

Hopefully someone out there has dealt with this and can give me some info on what the inspector would look for for a water softener!

Thanks in advance for the help!
Rob

If it's anything like a water heater they will check the clearance from the wall and make sure the lines are connected properly.

I have never heard of this-- I've had a water softener installed at my last two homes, and never had a permit-- I don't live in the city limits-- does CC have the same requirements?

It's a sad day when everyone totally accepts the premiss that you should pay a permit fee to install a water softener.

Never heard of this either.

That could come back to bite you when you go to sell the house.

There's probably a lot of improvements that go on in people's houses that code enforcement has no knowledge of. People get by fine without getting permits. The concept is that it protects future consumers from subgrade work but in my opinion they are an unnecessary bureaucracy after a house has already been built and somebody just wants to replace their water heater/softener, etc.
