I like the Green Valley area. Very upscale, yet only minutes from the airport and strip. Plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment. Good schools. Properties of all types and price ranges.

Find a lady and gentleman named Debbie Drummond and Mike Petit. Outstanding LVS Realtors in my opinion.

Stay away from North Las Vegas, stay away from East Las Vegas - Nellis Ave + Sahara Ave - that general area. Stay away from the Alphabet Streets ( D Street, E Street, etc). AZJoeD is right about the Green Valley area. Also Summerlin is a great place but expensive. Parts of Henderson, NV are pretty nice, too. If you are looking to live in Las Vegas proper, then the further west you can go in the city, the better the neighborhood. We have been here since 2008 and have lived in SW Las Vegas, Henderson, and now Boulder City. Boulder City is a nice sleepy little town about 10-12 miles south of Vegas. If you don't mind the commute, a lot of people live here and work in either Henderson or Vegas. If you have any questions, just ask and if I don't have the answer, then I know plenty of people who will.

So it's either Summerlin, parts of Henderson or Boulder city that's safe?

LOL!

I think the best bet is to stay clear of everything from Los Feliz to the 215. And from Grand Teton to Madera Canyon Park.

That'll keep you out of the worst neighborhoods.

If you heed Chelsas advice, there is nowhere safe to live. That is one very misinformed person. I am really tired of trying to defend where I live (North Las Vegas) and I do not care anymore if people move here or not.
Do your research. Come out for visits. You can generally tell if the neighborhoods are to your liking or not by seeing them in person.
I swear by the sheer number of people that move to Henderson/Green Valley/Summerlin because it's allegedly the safest and best areas to move to, not only is there tons of traffic all the time over there, but someday a giant sinkhole will form (during the monsoon season) and suck everyone into it. So good luck with that.
