My wife and I were at traffic light at Fort Apache and Flamingo this morning .The pan handle came to our car window as usual. My wife gave him a dollar,as that was all the change we had at the time. She told him that she was sorry, but that was all the change she had.He took it,said okay, but next time you better have $20.We were so shocked,we just looked at each other speechless. My wife always make a point to give all the panhandles she sees a couple dollars. Is it customary in Las Vegas to give them $10-20?We don't get out too much as we are old and retired.

It's customary to not give them anything. If you want to help work in a shelter or kitchen.

prey on women... they'd never say that to a full grown man.

A friend of mine was at Lowes on Ft.Apache and a homeless woman walked up to him and asked if he had any spare change so she could get some lunch. He gave her his sandwich out of his lunch pale. She said than you, and as he was leaving he saw her throw it in the trash can with a s*&t eating grin on her face then flipped him the bird!!

Donate money to a reputable charity. Most every panhandler you meet on the street is running a scam.

Any time I see a panhandler coming towards me, I ask them for spare change first before they can even open their mouth.

Last time I did this, the guy told me to "go f**k myself".

One day I'm probably gonna get punched in the face.

:-)

There are welfare services for these individuals. Most are getting sheltering and food assistance.

A dollar is more than I offer them. I don't even give them the time of day.

My standard MO is to ask them if they have change for a hundred.

The most original approach I've seen was last week on Flamingo near Rainbow. A guy had a handmade sign that said, "Friend For Life - 25 cents." It was original, but it didn't seem to be working.

I don't think it is so surprising - chances are there is a reason they are reduced to begging in the street and its probably not because they have excellent customer service skills.
