This can be a very serious problem for the Vegas Valley and it's residences. That includes Henderson and North Las Vegas.

I don't know why the people of NV don't give Harry Reid a boat load of crap for allowing this to happen. He could probably make one call to the Secretary of the interior, and tell him if he doesn't increase the water flow down to Lake Mead, the DOI budget is going to have a very hard time making it out of the Senate.

And, meanwhile, 9000 more homes are scheduled for development in the NW valley. And how many of them are going to want a pool in the backyard!

But the way of America is wait until the very last minute, when it comes to infrastructure needs!

9000 homes is negligible. 90,000 or 180,000 might challenge the infrastructure.

We can absorb 9,000 by offsetting the new usage with easy conservation.

Don't forget we not only have the people who live in the vegas valley using water, we have millions of visitors that visit Vegas yearly, 40 million last year. Those people flush toilets drink water, and bath etc.
casino's reuse their grey water, however they still have to pull fresh water in from time to time as well.

That does not however mean that the problem is easily solved or that we will never need the third straw. The legalities favor the farmers as does the politics with CA against Nevada and maybe AZ.

In fact in most likely outcome NV has to hope that it is enough of an asterisk on the over deal that it gets what it needs without taking any damage.

I think Las Vegas has to go for the pipeline. This is a one shot deal. If Las Vegas ever says no to that water it is gone forever.

the one thing I do have to agree with Knapp on is the third straw absolutely should have been the second straw. That call was really dumb. Thwy were right to try and protect the system but they missed the big gorilla in the room.
