No it isn't. Of course you are of that opinion.

Date range of 10/10/13 to 10/16/13

Most people don't ponder about crime all day, but Vegas isn't that safe by a long shot . Not the worst, but certainly not the best "or safe" either. Crime happens everywhere all the time, we certainly get our fair share.

Urban sprawl? Vegas? Nope. To have urban sprawl would imply that there was anything really urban there to start with. Except for a small area in and around downtown, there really isn't much urban in Vegas. Even the hood isn't really urban.

Suburban sprawl on the other hand...

I researched this pretty thoroughly before making the move here two years ago. Crime is down substantially over the past 10 years or so. Most crime in Vegas is crime of opportunity like petty theft, vandalism, etc.
and I'm sure the Strip skews the numbers a bit as compared to the outlying suburbs.

Vegas doesn't even make the top 25 for most dangerous or, highest crime cities in America anymore.

Crime here in town is on the increase again, more people and visitors, more crime. We're not at Detroit levels yet, but not quite middle of the pack either. We get our fair share. Statistics could be better.

Also, on the thread above^, click on the little tab DATA.

From that webpage:

"The crime rate in Las Vegas is considerably higher than the national average across all communities in America from the largest to the smallest, although at 37 crimes per one thousand residents, it is not among the communities with the very highest crime rate. The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Las Vegas is 1 in 27. Based on FBI crime data, Las Vegas is not one of the safest communities in America. Relative to Nevada, Las Vegas has a crime rate that is higher than 88% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes"

There are a grand total of 19 incorporated cities and towns in Nevada, of which there are 4 over 100,000 people - Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Reno. I would be very shocked if Las Vegas DIDN'T have a crime rate higher than the other 18 cities and towns in the state. In a state with an average of fewer than 25 people per square mile, it stands to reason that Las Vegas would top the list in crime due to population density alone.

Agreed, most residents of Nevada live in Las Vegas. But what about

"The crime rate in Las Vegas is considerably higher than the national average across all communities in America from the largest to the smallest, although at 37 crimes per one thousand residents, it is not among the communities with the very highest crime rate.

Not the highest rate of crime, but still, something to be aware of.

Yes, I would agree with that, one should be aware of crime in any locality. However, the average population of all US cities and towns is 6,600 people. Again, I would be shocked if a city of 600,000 didn't have more crime than the national average.
