I'm going to have my home setup with Lutron lighting system (Home Automation), and have received a couple quotes (one out of state). Has anyone else had this system installed? Any recommendations on quality knowledgeable installers? Any comments on other systems besides Lutron to consider? I heard about Control 4, not sure if that is more expensive or the same. I have a fairly large house that I want 100% covered (I live out of country some months of the year and would like ability to control)

There are a few things that rub me with the Lutron system:

1. The software they provide is only for installers - I'd like to find an installer willing to provide me the software for my laptop after installation.

2. Installers can charge $90 an hour or more for very simple 4min adjustments after installation.

Your input is appreciated!

You want someone good, cheap, and reliable.

If they are good & cheap, they are not reliable.
If they are good & reliable, they are not cheap.
If they are cheap & reliable, they are not good.

Eagle Sentry is good & reliable - and not cheap.

Belkin WeMo light switches run $50 a piece (link). I've been eyeing them as a solution for remote controlling lights via Android and iPhone.

I'm sure the Lutron is likely to give you more options like an all lights out switch, but out of curiosity what is the range of price on that system?

This sounds like something that MacGeek might be able to chime in on. He should be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck.

Default Zuli Smartplugs

i found these guys on Kickstarter, but they seem to be doing what Belkin WEMO is doing, only smarter. no wi-fi needed. just the plug and your iPhone.

their page is here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...uli-smartplugs
