Why a taxi driver protest turned violent in Paris

The attacks by striking cab drivers on Uber cars in Paris on Monday — with protesters shattering windows, smashing mirrors and slashing tires — appear to be the first violent clashes in the ongoing battle between local cabbies and app-based car services.

But tensions, in Paris and elsewhere, have been brewing for months. Cab drivers say Uber and apps like it, which allow customers to hitch rides nearly instantly from their smartphones, create unfair competition and undermine the traditional cab-hailing business.

When Uber launched in New York, the city's Taxi and Limousine Commission reportedly pressured the drivers of licensed "yellow" taxis not to join Uber's fleet.

This pay plan is pretty sick. 1500 base, no matter what.
1-2 cars is 175 per car plus 100 for the write up, so 275 per car.
it goes up incrementally from there all the way to 500 per car.

Then, for every new car you sell, Chrysler (fiat lol) sends you 100 and you get to spin the wheel. Guaranteed 50 on up to 250. Double if it's a ram you sell, 100-500.

If you sell before noon on Saturday, OR set an appointment for Saturday, and sell a car, you get an extra 150 on top of everything else.

If you sell 2 new cars on Saturday you get an additional 200. Sell 3, 1 can be a used car, and you get 300.

Then, on top of that, certain cars have an additional bonus on them. Sell a ram, you get 300, dart 200, etc.

That changes month to month, but there's always something.

Then you have the customer surveys. Score a 10 and you get 50 bucks.

At that rate I only need to sell 4-5 cars to pay my bills. We're required to sell 9 and the average is 13.
13 is 3450 in commission alone plus 1300 in write up, plus 1300 from Chrysler, plus if there is the bonus on the cars and the Saturday dealio. I'm cool with anything over 2400 a month.

Could be, as I said, anything over 2400 a month is cool with me. I know a lot of salesmen who make 50-75k a year, I only need half that.

I hope that's true, because when my ex was selling cars (for six months in circa 2005) most of them were "minis" and he got $150 dollars on those. Best of luck, but don't get your hopes up. I could be wrong (often am) but I'm told that the profit margin on new cars is very slim.

I never made less than $100K when I sold, and was well over that when I managed. It's a volume game. Take the good grosses with the bad, make sure your clients are happy, and you'll do fine. Long hours, dealing with brutal people, but you will know in the first couple of months whether or not you like it. It can be very rewarding seeing the faces of the people who are actually excited, but the tradeoff is dealing with the people who are professional "grinders" with what seems like a vendetta against you because they know "so and so who got screwed". Brush it off, and keep going. You can make an honest living. People forget salespeople are just people - with families, bills, etc. It's a job. Do it well and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Normally, the base drops once you hit it with sales. Also to be the #1 dealership in Fiat takes less than 70 units. How many salespeople? Last Feb. (old data, dealership forum.com) showed Towbin with 47 and being #1.. Also if you only sell 4-5 cars, you will be gone in 60 days.. at least you can get the Base for awhile.... i know Chop from Manheim.. dude is a jerk....

Keep looking while you are there... theres much better to be had.. 1500 base = per month...and a ton of hours... 60 at least.... one good thing is at least you will have Sundays off...13 cars will average under 250 per car... the bonus from fiat is probably the same as hyundai, you hit the average first and receive the backend... without the average, you don't get the bonus...

Saturday at the Quad, there is a decent job fair also..
