Foremost, I just moved to Vegas so excuse my newbie questions.

Is there any highly recommended casino dealer schools? Do you have to learn all the games or can you specialize in one or two?

Anyone know how it works in terms of hiring dealers at casinos? If you specialize in dealing in one game, lets say blackjack, can you still be hired?

I've read the salary reports on dealers on google couple years back, anyone know the updated number?

Thank you

Nick Kallos runs a pretty good dealing school http://www.learntodeal.com/24/nick-kallos
You can be hired only knowing BJ but your chances are pretty slim to next to none. You really need to know BJ, BAC, Pai Gow Poker and deal the wheel to be any use to a casino right out of the starting gate. Carnival games and dice and tiles can be learned over time Its still possible to make +80K working weekends in the right house. Getting those coveted positions takes time and connections. Some Casino Shift Managers on the high end wont even give you an audition unless you claimed to have pushed cheques for at least five years downtown on your application.

I will second the above post. Nick is a hustler, meaning that he works really hard. It was years ago but he does have good people working with him and he'll listen to feedback from his students as well. I can't speak to the placement assistance because I chose not to utilize it, but someone will be around shortly with a picture of orange juice.

You can just learn BJ and work at a "starter casino" like Poker Palace in NLV; however, you'll be better off learning craps. That is where the huge demand is for dealers. In terms of salary, of course you'll make more on Strip houses versus non-Strip but I can tell you my wife is making between $140-$160/day as a dual-rate on a non-Strip property.

+1 on Nick's school. You are correct, I would just modify the first sentence to "a good house".

If I could embed a picture of a Tropicana box, I would

Is that her dealing day average or is the $160 the pay for having her put on the suit for the day.

That's the put on the suit (or jersey) rate. She told me that some FT floor sups are being hired for only $135/day. She was telling me that on her Monday's, they tell her if she will be dealing or suping but lately she's been doing 90% suping.

$135 a day, come on. Even Boyd is paying more than that to supervise the $5 grind at Sam's Town.

I've always heard that craps is the game you want to learn as quickly as possible, because it's the hardest (figuring out all the odds payoffs on all the many possible bets.) If you can get that down, the rest are easy (relative to that.)

I wonder if anyone makes a craps odds training app?
