The sun's damaging rays are still there, whether it's cold or not. You can actually get a bad sunburn on days with a thin cloud cover, as the damaging rays still get through. If you are out all day, I'd still use it.

I lay in the sun, April thru October, 3 hours every day with my friends and use accelerator. Would say all I have is a nice tan and I am very fair skinned. I think this all depends on your skin type.

A lot depends on your genetics. Many non-fair skinned people get
Melanoma, which is very serious. I myself have already had the other
Two types but so have my relatives who live in New England.
I don't use sunscreen daily due to pure laziness but should.
Skin cancer is serious!! The skin is an organ just like your heart.

Since I have known a few people who have died from a melanoma, let me reply.

1. Although melanoma is more frequent is fair skin people (John McCain had three), anyone can get a melanoma. Bob Marley died of metastatic melanoma at the age of 36.

2. Other less aggressive skin tumors (basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas) are extremely common and extremely destructive. Some estimates show that almost one out of every five people will get a skin cancer.

3. Cold does not block the sun. In fact, sun in the mountains (where it is usually a lot cooler) is more dangerous because of the higher altitude. Clouds still can let 80% of the direct sunlight through. Even under a canopy, one can still get at least 40% of the direct sunlight.

4. Think about that tan-shriveled lady in the movie "There's Something about Mary" next time you're out in the sun. But then, again, getting a suntan is cool...just like smoking. Not!

I did some research and NV is very high risk. One of the highest melanoma rates in the country for whites (the highest?) LV is at high elevation which makes things worse too. You can check UV Index for the day here:

I use it every day year-round. I've gotten horrible sunburns on cloudy days.
