I've lived in a few cities in a few states and everyone of them has some pros and cons. At this moment the only thing lacking in Vegas to me is fishing options. Yea I know about lake mead but I'm more salt water so that's a trip.

I was on the strip today and basically I don't think any city can beat it as far as shopping and entertainment. I walked form Planet Hollywood down to Caesar's played a slot which took my $5.00 but had my revelation of why not Vegas? What city can beat the options?

For those who may want the small town feel well there's local Vegas. Being a 24/7 town with the entertainment options is just hard to beat. I guess when all else fails just take a fishing trip outside of Vegas.

Having lived in the UK, Florida, Texas and California, Las Vegas beats them all for quality of life. It truly is paradise on earth here.

The shopping is great if you are rich. If not most good sized cities are plenty competitive. Vegas has good entertainment, but face it most people aren't going to shows except when they are on vacation in Vegas. If you live in Vegas you won't be dying to see a showroom act or a Cirque show all that often. Not to mention Vegas shows are not cheap unless you are getting comped. Ticket prices for big name bands in MGM are more than they are in other cities, somewhat due to the smaller arena and some due to them being able to get away with changing more. All in Vegas is great compared to cities it's size or smaller, but it's not like it has an edge on bigger cities for entertainment options or shopping. It's just focused properly which means it's focused on visiting guests, not locals.

I dont' think so, we have great shopping for everyone not just for the ones with $$$$$. If you are into production shows, there are special offers for locals. Concert scene is amazing and the ticket price, competitive. All the A-listers come to perform in Vegas. As far as the club scene, it might cost more compared to other cities but for an alternative and with the same vibe, the lounges/bars in the resorts are some of the best out there and you don't have to pay a cover. As far as dining, there are so many restaurants to choose from and with price points $ to $$$$$.

I think the shopping here stinks. Concerts and restaurants can be absolutely first rate. But shopping? It's all mid-range stuff at mid-range prices. Las Vegas is the city for people who think Bose makes the ultimate loudspeaker and Rolex makes the ultimate wristwatch.

If you want high end, go to London, Paris, Milan or Geneva.

Agreed. 13th state for me (as well as a few International cities). I've only been here about 5 1/2 months, but I STILL look at my wife on almost a daily basis and say "I can't believe we LIVE here!". For me, it's the simple things. Weather and scenery. Driving that turn from the 215 onto the 515 and seeing the entire valley with mountains shooting up to the sky and from that angle, the tip of the Sunrise Mts that looks like it just shot up out of the ground.. breathtaking.

We get so excited when guests come to town so we can show them our city. Sure, the strip is great, and we always make a point to drive from Mandalay to the Strat both in daytime and nighttime so they can see it, but it's all of the other places, too, that make this a great place to live. I love telling them about the history of the place, taking them down to Boulder City or through Red Rock Canyon. In better weather, we always take them up to the Mt. Charleston Lodge, have them look around, and ask them "So, what do you think about Las Vegas?"

People who either haven't been here, or have only been to stay in a Strip casino are amazed by the time they leave that Vegas has so much to see and do. My neighborhood has the look and feel of living in a resort, with the palm trees, lighted walking paths, pools... and I get to LIVE here! Sorry, Las Vegas, you're stuck with me for many years

I've been here nearly two years now and also can't believe how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful place with so many things to do. We have been truly blessed!

I agree on the dining part, although the higher end stuff on the Strip is rather overpriced. Lots of variety. I don't argue there isn't shopping for everyone, just that it's no better than what you find in other cities of similar size except for the very high end. What Vegas doesn't have a lot of is mom and pop shops and mid range boutiques. What it does have for the not so rich is plenty of outlets. The club scene is world class no doubt. Having all the A list singers is great, but you pay a premium for the Vegas shows. Unfortunately the local live music scene is rather weak, but seems to be improving in the last 5 years. Lounge acts serve a purpose, but up and coming bands they are not.

I am not knocking the scene, just saying it's a bit overrated and for a local not as meaningful as it would seem. So much money and resources go into serving and attracting tourists that organic growth aimed at locals gets a bit crowded out. In other cities great restaurants create inspired chefs who venture out and open their own little places and enough of them create a real food scene. As much as you'd think Vegas could do this, it just doesn't work the same. Similar situation in shopping, arts, music and other areas. Serving visitors allows you to get away with lesser quality and higher prices without the immediate hit to your business. This is the filter you get elsewhere that is missing.
