I don't know too much about Atlantic City but Las Vegas will never suffer the same fate as Detroit. Las Vegas has survived the worst recession since the Great Depression and the tourists are returning little by little. Viva Las Vegas.

-Cheers.

To truly understand why cities thrive and/or fail read "Triumph of the City" by Richard Glaeser.

Here's a hint: The reasons Detroit thrived then failed over the past 100+ years have nothing to do with conditions anything like those in Vegas.

Geographically speaking Las Vegas and Clark County because of its central location in the Southwest will never lose out on tourism, even with the proliferation of gaming all over the US and overseas. Las Vegas proximity to many beautiful National Parks and sceneries not only in Clark County but in AZ, CA and UT will always bring in visitors. Many foreign visitors stay in Las Vegas and make it a base to explore the other areas beyond stateline. It is also great that local resort operators continue to evolve and are always improving what it has to offer to the visitors in Vegas.

Detroit collapsed largely due to the massive unfunded pension liabilities promised over the past 50 years to its employees. If you look at the bankruptcy filing on the US Bankruptcy Court -Eastern Michigan website, you will see wgat I mean. I doubt that there are any pensions in Las Vegas that are that substantial.

Vegas fine unless CA or the LA metro area institutes Las Vegas "style" gambling and opens tons of Casino hotels. However until that happens they are just fine.

[quote of deleted post and orphaned response]

I have lived in Vegas 4X's in my adult life and used to fly in for spring break in high school 3 years in a row. I would prefer complete and utter drug legalization & a 'no-police' zone/enforcement area ON the majority of the strip from MB all the way up to the Srat, yet this is a minority viewpoint; of that I am sure.

The strip needs to get a 100% 'degenerate' zone PROPERTY/Resort on said/written strip.

Oh wait! That's the Palms~~where terrible awful minorities of every race/creed/color & religion reside and yea--they have the BEST drugs 24/7 near Flamingo/LVB.

This would 'BOOST' revenues w/drug taxation (into the coffers of the pyschopathic govt. officials & residents) AND reduce the burden on the taxpayers that pay for the retarded city police officers that mindlessly wander the strip trying to lose their hard ons 24/7.

Win win!
