The latest victim to jump off the new O'Callaghan-Tillman Bridge is now the 7th to jump from the bridge, and now the family of the most recent victim, from Arizona, is putting pressure on adding more security measures to the bridge to help prevent more suicides from that bridge.

This latest victim, rented a cab in Phoenix, and rode all that way in a taxi cab to that bridge! Sheesh!

No matter which idea is proposed, it would be costly. Adding the plexiglass would encourage graffiti artists to deface it, and what would it look like in even 5 years!!!

3 months ago, I walked across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and with all the proposals to add more security measures, I saw no new security measures, nothing would stop someone from jumping from that bridge.

Afterall, the woman could have rented a room on a high floor at Cosmo, with their open-air balconies, and jumped from there.

What do you think? More security measures, or let them jump?

If someone is determined to kill themselves no one can stop them. Attempting to do so is futile. In other words, don't waste any more money on the bridge's security measures.

That sounds good in theory but the surviving family can sue and would likely win. Better to take reasonable steps to stop jumpers.

I say absolutely not! Because I may want to jump off that bridge some day!

Really? I would take myself out with sleeping pills after I made myself pretty.

How about a couple of security guards patrolling on the bridge. (walking or riding bikes) If they feel someone looks like they may jump, they can get close to them and monitor them. If they put plexiglass up there, it will kill the views.
It is really sad that some people feel there is no hope left and decide to end it all that way.

and while we're at it, lets have 2 security guards at the top level of every parking garage so the casinos don't get sued.

I can think of a better way to spend $70,000 of our tax money.

It was just an idea. Sorry you didn't like it. The way I see it, if someone really wants to kill themselves, nothing will stop them. They will always find another place.

I wouldn't jump off a bridge, I'm afraid of heights.

It's a waste of time. If they really want to die nobody can stop them. But I would say if it's to prevent lawsuits put a safety net under the walk. They said they were afraid if they did that daredevils would try to test it. So what? Like the woman on TV said, it's a mental heath problem not an engineering one. But that's using common sense and we are no longer allowed to do that thanks to the self-perpetuating legal system in this country.

That rarely works. You just end up in the ER with a big rubber hose stuffed up your nose. I've assisted in pumping stomachs. It ain't pretty.

As far as the bridge goes, maybe they could put some telephone boxes up there with numbers to call if you are in crisis? Those might also come in handy for people who break down (car) in the area, or are victimized by some criminal. Other than that, I don't see any answers.

You can't legislate for this kind of occurrence. I'm sorry that this poor lady felt she had to take this way out, but the answer is not to fix the bridge. It's to fix people before they come to such despair that they are willing to override every survival instinct in their body to make the pain stop.
