I've seen the bigger helicopters quite a bit over the last few months as well here in Aliante. They fly too low and everything shakes. Also a few bigger black ones, probably looking for the ufo believers.
Thanks for the info about them demoknite.

Most of your bigger helos are Sikorsky Pavehawks (H-60 variant) out of Nellis. Cool camo paint job and a refuel probe coming out the front. The Army National Guard has a few LUH Lakotas based out of North Las Vegas Airport and then the next nearest military are the LUHs / OH-58s based down at Fort Irwin, CA (the LUHs get off the reservation more because they have a sham job comparatively).

Maverick (out of McCarran--you can see their helos/helipads on the right if you drive past McCarran on Las Vegas Blvd) or Mustang (flies out of Henderson Executive) are probably the primary culprits if they are going to Red Rock for sight seeing.

As for black helicopters...I have a couple or three thousand hours up front in them. If they are hanging around your area (and not transiting via a VFR corridor to stay out of the controlled airspace), they are either:
1. Bored.
2. Student pilot is being instructed by the IP / SP
3. Lost or "temporarily disoriented". It happens.
4. Bored. Not a typo.
5. Looking for aliens?
6. Looking for you?

You just never know. Generally, if not transiting, I'd go with 1 or 4 above.

Red and white sounds like flight for life, though those may actually be more orange than red.

My friend is a pediatric flight nurse, and she says they have, on average, 1 flight per shift. 10 times per day over that one neighborhood seems like a lot for life flights.

Downtown Summerlin flyover? Seems a bit much, but who knows what people find interesting.

I've been caught in the spot lights, any number of times, in my neighborhood in East Central, walking my ferret between 2am-4am, by these helicopters, shining their lights down on us, so I figure, when that happens, it's police helicopters. A helicopter used for medical transport wouldn't do that!

With even our best neighborhoods being destroyed by investors and their renters, any number of these, in even the nicer parts of the Valley, could be police helicopters.
