Doesn't surprise me! When I lived in the Bay Area one of the biggest cause of burglaries were kids that were either not in school or got out of school early and would take advantage of their neighbors that were at work. The parents either have no clue or they are in on the scam themselves. Better to get caught as a minor than an adult.

Not unusual. In Laredo we had a babysitter that was part of a gang of teenage girls whose boyfriends had them take babysitting jobs so they could steal people's jewelry which the boys would sell. When we found out we set her up to be arrested by the police. She wasn't a "bad" girl. It was just typical teenage stupidity. We let her come and work off the debt as long as she took responsibility for what she had done, which was the important thing to us. If you're missing something it was probably stolen by a kid. For whatever reasons, kids steal and they think they can get away with it, just like kids take all kinds of other risks. They believe they are smart and invincible...just like we did at that age. It's not right, but it has always been that way.

Last night I had a guy knock on my door and robbed me right there at my front door. I can't believe the balls on this guy. I guess the first mistake I made was answering my door, which I will never do in this town again. Luckily he only got 40 bucks from me and took off. I'm sure he'll never be back so I guess on the bright side, it cost me 40 bucks to keep a criminal away from my place. This is the first time something like this has happened to me here. But I'm still shocked at how brazen the whole thing was.

House or apartment? What part of town? Did you call the cops? There was story on the news last night, that I only caught a part of, but it seemed to be about some kid that was harrassing a neighborhood like that.

^^^^ how did he manage to do that ?? gunpoint ?!
sounds like the motherland to me. where i come from people use kids to block the roadways b lying down on the streets and when the car stops, they car jack, rob, or even kill the passengers. kids are always used back there for robbery. very sad. i hope it doesnt get as bad over here.

yeah...they can be pretty ballzy. sorry to hear that matt.
when my uncle was a priest in ABQ a man came to the door of the rectory asking for "some help to get a meal". against his better judgment (he grew up in NYC), he reached for his wallet and as he took his eyes off the guy, the dude tried to rob him...fortunately the would be robber got a little more than he bargained for (in the form of a deacon w/ a hammer). i still think of that anytime someone comes unexpectedly to my door or before i pull out my wallet or money in public....i mean if someone will go far enough to rob a priest at his home under the guise of asking for help, many things are possible.
big believer in dogs and/or security doors also.

I got car jacked about 10 years ago in CA. I was getting some mornng coffee before work and stopped at 7-11. When I was walking back to my car (1992 Camaro Z28) some guy came out of noware and pointed a gun at me and demanded the car keys). Found the car later striped.

The guy was not armed, at least I don't think he was. What happened was he knocked on my door and started going on and on about some sob story about his car being out of gas and needed a couple of bucks. We'll it was awkward because I didn't want to slam the door on someone who said they lived the neighborhood there. I had some money on the counter and grabbed a small wad of cash, I was just going to give him a couple bucks and indeed he grabbed it out of my hands and took off like rocket. I feel lucky because the cash was loose out of my wallet. Had I had my wallet in my hands he would have taken all of that too. It happened in Green Valley. A relatively safe place. It was a lesson learned. Just goes to show how desperate people do desperate things.
