We get rains like this in the winter. But, not too typical to see it rain all day long like this. I bet the mountains will be covered in snow tomorrow.

They're already snow covered. Everything above 7,000 feet is snow covered, according to the KLAS meteorologists. I'm so grateful to have the option of not seeing snow close up if I don't want to--and I don't --and for not having to shovel it anymore!

Hallelujah!

6.5 inches is a little high because our average is really just over 4 inches per year. This year we've had only 2.6 inches and the 6 tenths came today. That hasn't happened for two years. Most states get more than our annual rainfall in one day so this is only unusual for us. We have been in a drought but the desert is by definition a constant drought. Enjoy it while you can. It's nice for a change.

Default Someone might like this

We had a morning like today's a Spring or two ago that inspired me to think of my home state and write this poem. So in case this weather makes some of you homesick...here tis.

A Rare Spring Morning

It’s dark and damp this morning
A Spring chill is in the air
Birds are chirping wildly
Flowers showing everywhere.

It’s a West Virginia morning
That it’s plain to see
While sipping at my coffee
Dogs grinning up at me.

A West Virginia morning
Is always cold and dank
Yet it invigorates my spirit
And gives me pause to think.

It’s my favorite kind of morning,
When the sun’s not burning me
The air is clean and fragrant
But looks as grim as grim can be.

A morning such as this one
Is rare where I now roam
For I’m in the hot, dry desert
Three thousand miles from home.
