Seems like this topic hasn't specifically come up in a couple of years and since LV can be in flux, I thought I'd bring it up again.

Looking for an off-strip or way-off-strip hotel for March Madness (NCAA basketball tournament 1st weekend) with the following requirements, most important on top:

Sportsbook with decent ability to actually watch the games

Non-smoking casino (or with non-smoking areas)

Clean hotel rooms

Reasonable food choices on-site or nearby

Pool

Free parking

Background: For years I had gone for the tourney with buds to the Venetian or more recently to the Wynn. Would prefer a more economical non-Strip option that is more 3-star as opposed to 4.5 star. Will have a car.

Thanks

Las Vegas Hilton on Paradise. I don't know about the pool. It does have monorail access so you can get around the strip to other casinos if you so choose.

Green Valley Ranch. Restaurants are non-smoking and there is a non-smoking slot section. Has everything else you required.

Would love to stay there but rooms are $300 + per night. Looks more like a 4-5 star experience. Maybe with the wife on a non-event weekend.

There's always Fremont St, but I don't recall seeing non-smoking areas. I may be wrong. I would recommend the Golden Nugget. It's the most expensive on Fremont, but I've never had a bad stay there.

Funny you mention the Nugget. I have a couple of friends in a super-high income bracket who could easily afford several nights at the Wynn and all the associated expenses, but they have an annual trip every year where they stay at the Nugget...been doing this for 10+ years. Not for March Madness, but to get away and golf for a couple of days.

If you play poker, you can sit in a non-smoking area with TV's on all around you in most casinos. At the low limit tables, many people will be watching the games and not taking it very seriously

+! on Las Vegas Hilton. It is now the LVH. For many years, I looked for the same thing as OP, and called the then Las Vegas Hilton my March Madness home. The casino is not non-smoking, but it otherwise fits the bill perfectly. Many casinos have non-smoking aeas for slot players. I can't think of any that has a non-smoking pit game area. LVH has a non-smoking sportsbook area. It is THE BEST sportsbook for March Madness atmosphere.

Every single sportsbook is going to be packed. There are no hidden gems with seats open and short betting windows except for the last couple of games of the night when people are finally worn out and leave. So criteria one is tough. Not to mention room rates are high everywhere first three weeks of this March, surveys show rates up about 25% over last year thanks to a returning convention and just all around more demand.
