There are buses, but remember, the Summer is long here, with temps upwards of 110 for extended periods of time. Plus, from what I understand, the bus systems is not the greatest here. The valley is a sprawling place, and driving from end to end takes close to an hour. My recommendation would be to have a car. Do people live here without? Sure. Just my opinion.

Yes. Picture yourself (or have your friend picture himself) standing at a bus stop with a bag of groceries (that need to be in the fridge) frying in the sun in the 113 degree heat. Than ask if you need a car in Vegas.

It is possible to live in Las Vegas using public transport.

It creates substantial restrictions on where you can live and work and it will still be very uncomfortable at times.

As a for instance the newer suburbs are pretty much impossible. Many completely lack bus service.

And it can be reasonably unpleasant waiting for a bus on the hotter days.

The time to get places not pre-planned will be double or triple the time by car.

Try explaining to some girl in Vegas (who you are trying to date) that you don't own a car. Tell your friend to get his sh%t together.

Cars are practically mandatory in Las Vegas.

I cannot comprehend how anyone can not have a car in this day and age.
Of course I have owned about 40 cars over the years. Most I had was 6 at one time.
But I am weird.
I only have one truck here in LV now and I wonder what I would do if it broke.

A lot of nonsense. To live without a car in Vegas is quite doable but very limiting.

Let me clue you folks...lot of the elderly do it all the time.
