I'm pondering switching to Dish TV. Some differences from cable (good, bad, indifferent? you decide) I've discerned are as follows:
*Costs $5 for local channels and you don't get all the local channels, especially the municipal ones
*Internet available only thru DSL or satellite, the former of which is slower than cable modem and the latter of which I have no clue about. I just know I need a constant and fast connection for my work. Seems I'd have to keep Cox Internet connection, in which case the cost (for ISP service w/out cable or phone) would cost $10 more/month, bringing it to just over $50/month
*It's possible to sign up for a plan that gives you use of one DVR box that works on two TVs--that is VERY appealing to me
*I didn't think the offering of the 100-channel plan was great (no MSNBC? c'mon, that's "basic" as far as I'm concerned)
*Upgrading to the 200 channels provides a really good selection, I think
*I would definitely need a tech to install the dish, etc.
*Don't know that it will be allowed when I move from a house to an apartment, and in the case of the latter, it might be hard to set the dish to the proper directional coordinates
My reception via Cox isn't very consistent, and on my upstairs TV, I can't get any TV show or menu information ("No data available" is the message that appears when I try to get show info). All their little charges tick me off, too.
Phew! Feels good to vent!
