Default Thanks!!

Thanks for the quick responses. One of the main reasons we were leaning towards Direct TV was because of the exclusive rights to football. If everything else is similar I think direct tv is the obvious choice. I cant wait to see my Detroit lions in HD.

Does anyone have any opinions on which Internet provider to go with, they said they can bundle it together if you choose either Atandt, Verizon, and possibly embarq. Ive read some pretty terrible things about embarq, does anyone have any experience with the other two?

Even if you chose Directv, you might be best served getting your internet from Cox. I use Embarq DSL and it's adequate, but it uses the archaic telephone lines in my neighborhood and limits my connection speed.

I'm pondering switching to Dish TV. Some differences from cable (good, bad, indifferent? you decide) I've discerned are as follows:

*Costs $5 for local channels and you don't get all the local channels, especially the municipal ones
*Internet available only thru DSL or satellite, the former of which is slower than cable modem and the latter of which I have no clue about. I just know I need a constant and fast connection for my work. Seems I'd have to keep Cox Internet connection, in which case the cost (for ISP service w/out cable or phone) would cost $10 more/month, bringing it to just over $50/month
*It's possible to sign up for a plan that gives you use of one DVR box that works on two TVs--that is VERY appealing to me
*I didn't think the offering of the 100-channel plan was great (no MSNBC? c'mon, that's "basic" as far as I'm concerned)
*Upgrading to the 200 channels provides a really good selection, I think
*I would definitely need a tech to install the dish, etc.
*Don't know that it will be allowed when I move from a house to an apartment, and in the case of the latter, it might be hard to set the dish to the proper directional coordinates

My reception via Cox isn't very consistent, and on my upstairs TV, I can't get any TV show or menu information ("No data available" is the message that appears when I try to get show info). All their little charges tick me off, too.

Phew! Feels good to vent!

One piece of advice....

If you have a satellite dish installed, be sure to check the area under and around the dish before the installer leaves your property.

While the technician was up on a ladder installing the satellite dish on my roof, he must have dropped a wrench or something and shattered the glass globe covering my electric meter. He left without even mentioning it to me. I just happened to see broken glass all over the ground a few days later, and realized that my electric meter no longer had the protective glass globe.

Fortunately, the electric company replaced the globe at no charge.

I've had DirectTV for years (not now since overseas) but will as soon as I get back to states. I go home and visit my family and they have Dish Network. I honestly can't stand the Dish Network. Not sure why, just really like DirectTV so much more. Just my opinion.

The cheapest option is the phone/cable/internet bundle from Cox.
