Currently I have an iPhone 4 w/Verizon. Plenty of data,
Unlimited talk & no text (saves me &30/)
mo.
I would like to leave verizon when the contract
Ends in may.
What are basically the options today. It will be my
Only line.
Has anyone had tmobile? Consimer reports ranked
Them a close 2nd to verizon.
Do most people still trade in phones & pay much less
To start up a new contact ?

I'm on the NW / SW border, 20 min west of the strip.
Thanks.

Verizon has the best coverage IMHO.....I'd chuck the Iphone and stick with Verizon.

I have a totally unlimited plan and love it!
Unlimited voice, Text and data!

I use my phone as a hotspot for my computer too...unlimited data there as well!
Netflix pauses now and then but otherwise it's not bad.

I ditched verizon for tmobile in November. Half the bill and all the benefits I had with verizon. Could not be happier.

had both tmobile and sprint here in vegas --- both garbage for reception and coverage

att is ok....

i agree with cyborg... unless apple comes out with a large iphone, ditch it.. they are now lagging way behind samsung.. the galaxy's and notes kill them... and this coming from a mac guy... i have the iPads, the iphones, the iMacs, and MacBooks, along with apple tv

Check the various carrier's websites for street level coverage maps and pick the lowest cost that provides coverage that works for you in the areas you tend to spend your time. I found that tmobile provides voice and 4G LTE coverage throughout the valley from Anthem to Downtown and everywhere in between as well as Pasadena & Lancaster CA and that pretty much covers the places that I hang out in 95% of the time.

Thanks. My iphone is my first apple product. I am so disappointed with it. Saw a friends Samsung & couldn't believe the difference! Originally had the iphone because a close friend is an all apple person. When they launched ios 7 I had lived in Las Vegas for only 1.5 weeks so needed maps & internet a lot. Needed to charge it multiple times a day.

This year consumer reports reviewed cell phones & carriers. They did not cover the Las Vegas area but you really couldn't draw conclusions from it - other than if you know tmobile has good coverage you should select that.
I will check coverage maps although I had sprint in California, for 72 hours. They advertised full coverage but the local
mountain ranges interfered @ my address.

Default Using phone as a hotspot

What do you mean using the phone as a hotspot? It can take the place of a wireless connection to the internet in lieu of router/modem?
thanks, my knowledge is rudimentary at best.

Yes, I only have my phone for internet. My laptop and desktop both access the internet through my phone. It is wireless and acts as a modem/router.

When I drove cab in LV I often still had reception even when under the casinos when every other service was not available.
Now I'm in the Texas oilfields and still get reception even when others don't when out on oil sites.

I had AT&T for 2 years and got tired of $80 phone bills.

Go with T-Mobile family plan...I pay less than $30 for unlimited everything. Great reception everywhere in Las Vegas, I could not be happier.

I am centrally located on the west side of the strip. I cant imagine T-Mobile not working here.
Is the best way to sign onto a plan to get in touch with them directly or go through Wal-Mart or something?
In the past I went to radio shack and then the Verizon store. Does it matter or do the service plans
cost the same everywhere?
Tangentially, an Apple rep once told me (casually) that he always keeps his old phone. In case something goes wrong with his current one or he loses it. I have always done a trade-in because the "sticker price" of the phones is so high.
I read that some people sell their own phones in consumer reports - like selling your old car instead of trading it in.

That's great that you can use your phone as a hotspot. You can tell that I am not up on technology - its really too expensive and Im a keep it simple person. But, I am really impressed that you get Netflix access via phone. I would love to reduce all these extra bills to "providers" - internet, phone, tv .... I cant be a cable cutter 100% where I live but maybe by combining them it would be less expensive in the long run.
(my 1984 television just died, to provide context but I did upgrade to a smart tv during the labor day sales).
Thanks.
