I once read of the bankrolls certain states have to lure companies to their states, and I believe Nevada's bankroll, as of late, was in the low hundred millions, comparing that to California which has billions bankrolled to lure companies there. Then you wonder less, with California's business climate, why they continue to get firms to relocate/build there! Tons of tax breaks!

I agree. Why? I-80 and a direct route to the SF Bay Area. Southern Nevada is too far removed from the Tesla factory. Secondly, Las Vegas is a gaming town with no use for a large scale business that is not gaming related. Third, the Las Vegas workforce is largely not well educated and is better suited for low level jobs in the gaming industry.

What Vegas needs is more diversity in industries other than gaming.

Although not necessarily headquartered here, there is diversity. It's just the people don't see it because of the casinos looming everywhere.

Here's a rough list of the top employers in the valley. Data is accurate within the past couple of years.

MGM - 54,000 (Gaming)
Caesars - 28,000 (Gaming)
CCSD - 20,000 (Non-gaming) - Some sites have it over 30K
Station - 13,000 (Gaming)
Wynn - 12,000 (Gaming)
Clark County - 10,000 (Non-gaming)
Boyd - 9,000 (Gaming)

Not sure about the number of employees here in the valley for Amazon, Levi's, or Zappos. But the point is, while the majority is gaming, there are other very large employers here.

We could still stand more diversification. The lion's share of jobs in the valley are: Gaming, healthcare, education, and retail. Then we have Nellis AFB and the businesses which support it.

That really doesn't leave much else. I would love to see a few factories (like Tesla) open here. I'd also like to see more tech here.

Don't forget Creech AFB and all the thousands of DOD/VA contractors and civilians.

ANYONE with a good attitude and willing to learn and work can be trained to work at a Tesla factory on the production line or any other similar job. I doubt every worker Tesla hired at their plants came from car production. Many were trained... at least for production and warehouse work.

-Cheers.

Southern Nevada provides such a good quality of life at a good price (nice parks, nice homes, nice roads, low taxes, new schools, dining, shopping etc....) but businesses do not relocate here if they require a 'smart' workforce. Nevada leaders need to figure out how to smarten up the future workers so we can diversify the economy.

Arizona (our peer) has done a good job at having a diversified economy (they even have professional sports teams!)

As would pretty much every community in the country.

But be careful with factories. Most of the jobs in them will be increasing easy to automate away as time goes on.
