Default Moving to vegas

I was think anbout moving from CA to vegas. How is it out there? Is it easy to find a job there. Do they have affordable housing? Is it a good place to move a single single family to? Or would it be better to move to Atlanta? Please reply. Thanks.

Default Endocrinologists in Las Vegas

I, two other physicians, and a nurse practitioner take care of pediatric endocrine and diabetes patients. Contrary to one of the earlier messages in this thread, I and my colleague at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, Dr. Rola Saad, accept new patients. I am board certified in pediatric endocrinology and completed my pediatric endocrine fellowship at Yale University. Dr. Saad completed her fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. Our practice phone number is 702-992-6870.

Dr. Asheesh Dewan, who is practicing on his own, completed a fellowhsip at UCSD/Children's Hospital of San Diego. His practice phone number can be obtained by Google searching "Asheesh Dewan Las Vegas".

I know that you mentioned that you do not want to hear about PAs, and probably other non-MD or DO health care practitioners, but an earlier recommendation by a contributor to this thread about the nurse practitioner, Cathy Flynn, is seconded by me. She has been taking care of diabetic children for the past 18 years and has become as knowledgeable about the field as most pediatric endocrinologists. I would trust her with the care of my own children. During the past year, I have been her collaborating physician and have had the opportunity to observe her practice and I have never found any reason to criticize her. Incidentally, even though I am Cathy Flynn's collaborating physician, her practice at UMC is financially separate from mine at Kids Healthcare of the University of Nevada School of Medicine, and I do not benefit financially from patients seeing her.

Another writer requested information on internal medicine endocrinologists, There are also several excellent internal medicine endocrinologists including Drs. Brian Berelowitz, Reid Litchfield, Ambrika Rao, Fred Toffel, and Fred Wong.

Regarding disparaging comments by some writers about the quality of medical care in Las Vegas, I would like to recommend avoiding sweeping generalizations. There are some excellent physicians practicing in Las Vegas. I know of pediatric heme-oncologists, gastroenterologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists, surgeons, hospitalists, ophtalmologists, urologists, general pediatricians, an adolescent medicine specialists, a pediatric dermatologist, and a plastic surgeon who would be highly regarded anywhere .

It is important to note that there is a shortage of physicians in some specialties. For example, there are no full time pediatric rheumatologists or genetic metabolic specialists. Thus, it probably would not be a good idea for a family with a child with a potentially severe rheumatologic or genetic metabolic condition to move here. Their child would probably have to be transferred to UCLA, Loma Linda, CHOLA, UCSD, or the University of Utah during an acute exacerbation of the medical condition.

I hope this information is helpful.

I would like to recommend this in every thread, but, it seems to be the norm on the internet.

Also a Mom, single. One of my daughts also had a mis-diagnosed medical condition, which was not correctly diagnosed until we moved to Chicago. UNLV has a medical school and center; could the endocrine or diabetes people there, perhaps the head of that academic department or their medical center, direct you, perhaps? ....even if it is to California, at least maybe you could get a great referral. Good luck.

Look the doctors do generally suck in this town, although there are a few very good ones. We get what's avaiable here and deal with it or move away.

"If" you can't find the right help in this city then the answer is pretty easy as a parent. You pack up and go WITH her to get her help. Really, I could care less if my teenager didn't want to move schools if it meant I couldn't be with my other daughter when she needed help. As a parent I just can't imagine the choice even being a hard one.

I would ask mothers of other type 1 children in Vegas where they doctor.

Diabetesforums.com is very helpful.

My best friend has severe type 1 diabetes. She grew up here in Vegas and never had a problem finding quality medical care.

Red face Another single mother

I moved to Vegas from a much smaller University city awhile ago. My youngest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at a hospital's Emergency Room last June. She was admitted to the hospital by an Emergency Room Doctor and released from the hospital by a Practical Nurse with her blood sugar being within 20 of each other.

then..they told me, that Las Vegas does not have a doctor that practices this for children and only 3 in the area for adults. In shock from everything happening, I just could not believe it.... but, sure enough, that is true. How can a city this size not have something like that you ask? Doctors moved away several years ago because of malpractice insurance rates went through the roof.

So, here I am a single mother of 2 girls in a metro city with 2 Mill + residents and one of the most traveled cities in the United States... and not ONE MD to help my 9 year old child with her condition? One daughter in high school that dearly loves her younger sister, but enjoys going to that school and not wanting to change her life in mid stride. Me, recently laid off in the construction industry and suffering from having her youngest daughter live across country with family in a much smaller city that has ALOT of doctors to help her.

What is a parent to do? Who can I contact to get this situation handled? A city of this size NEEDS to obtain proper medical care in a state of emergency in addition to healthy every day living.

If you find yourself suggesting, PA (Physican's Assistant) to me.. do not even start. Not wanting to ditch any more medical/health care ... I don't even want to discuss that idea on the forum.

If you know or have a suggestion, let's talk.. I am open to anything else.
I am a single mother of 7 children I am on section * in Tucson Az. I am wondering if you could help me to get a list of section 8 homes fro Las Vegas Nevada?
