Listen, the last place you need to move raising 7 children alone is Las Vegas. Do you have family here to help you? My husband and I are raising 3 children here and it is every bit a two parent job. I would hate to raise 3 children here alone never mind 7. You are severly out numbered and as much as I love living here I have to be honest and tell you that without strong parental involvement those pretty lights on the strip can be a very strong draw and will lead your children into the depths of hell. You need to find a nice small town where you can raise those children.

From my insurance providers site, searched for pediatric endocrinology.
There is some stuff in there that may not be relevant.

Strikes me as funny that you didn't search the valley for a PE before you left MT. We recently moved here and had a dr picked out and an appt made before we ever hit the state.

Also your poll sucks. I answered neither, but would say none of the above if it were a choice. The LAST thing I want is the state forcing drs to practice here.

California is the place to go for good section 8 housing. Not Las Vegas. Calif will give you more welfare checks, Las Vegas makes you work for it.
Best bet, stay where you are. But if you can't, California's the place.

When I 1st moved to Las Vegas there were no peds endo in town then several months later Dr Donaldson moved to town. Now Las Vegas has come a long way since 1995 but as I am sure many will agree there is still a long way to go. There are 3 practices (ped endo) in town Cathy Flynn, Asheesh Dewan and Alan Rice. Now Alan Rice is planning on moving in 2009 so that will bring down the reasources. Everyone one of these practices is highly trained includeing Cathy Flynn where I am to find she not only brings expertise but practical infomation.
There are several reasons why doctors arn't coming to Las Vegas or staying. The reasons being: If you were a ped endo would you want to raise your family here? Now with that being said I grew up in Las Vegas and loved it. Second reason: Do you want to give up all your time. If there are only 3 peolpe that can be on-call for all of Las Vegas it would worry you too. What the state need to do is look to bring in several ped endos in Northern and Southern Nevada. One more endo will not solve this problem.
In the mean time- if you can not find a practice to see you and your child is 13 maybe consider an Adult endo office. And I do not agree with the post to see an internal med doctor. Type 1 diabetes is to specific and to go to a person that it "kinda" what they do is crazy.
Also there are great programs in the state for diabetes like the Nevada Diabetes Association camp programs. These programs include: sleepover camps, day camps and family camps for children of all ages. The camps are a great networking oppertunity and your child will get to see most of the ped endos because they help staff the camps. It is much easier to see a doctor once they know your face too
The Nevada Diabetes Assication also have updated infomation if you have more questions. www.diabetesnv.org
I hope this helps!

Your poll question sounds like you feel that your situation should be a concern to Clark County, State of Nevada...or even the Federal government????? You pay very low taxes where you live. YOU chose to move there! If you want better and more governmental services...you have to pay for that. Where you chose to live, you pay much lower taxes, and therefore receive less services....so get used to it or move to a higher taxed area.

Quick question...why'd you decide to move to LV in the first place? Too many move there thinking that every day is like it was on their last vacation.

Okay, I haven't read the rest of the replies yet, but you are way out of line here. This is not Canada and we don't have socialized medicine so that said what does your logic have to do with getting proper medical care attracted to the Las Vegas area? Your response was simply off base and antagonistic.

I too am moving to Las Vegas with a health issue. I need warm and dry which means the south west was pretty much my target. Is it to much to expect that a city of this size would also have proper medical care for its citizens. NO I'm not talking about them paying for it, but how about marketing the city in such a manner that appeals to physicians?

I can't believe that as a resident you would not advocate for better health care for your community. Ridiculous.

if someone needs medical attention, why would they go "elsewhere" just to find it when it is readily available here in nevada ? its like saying "i need a doctor. id better pack my bags and leave" which is pretty dumb if you ask me.

Not necessarily dumb. If there are only two or three doctors and they are not taking new patients then what?

Hey Itcbitc...Don't beat ole JFK too much...He actually lives in upstate NY...rural SW of Albany. And you know what that does to the brain.

He is however a really good tourist who comes once a year or more and leaves much of his money behind.

So we have to be nice to them even if they are a lttile short in the head dept.

You will get used to it. Because they leave their money here they feel some ownership. Humor them.
