Moving to Vegas? BEFORE you move, read this....
Where are all the Doctors ???
I moved to Vegas from a much smaller University city awhile ago. My youngest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at a hospital's Emergency Room last June. She was admitted to the hospital by an Emergency Room Doctor and released from the hospital by a Practical Nurse with her blood sugar being within 20 of each other.
then..they told me, that Las Vegas does not have a doctor that practices this for children and only 3 in the area for adults. In shock from everything happening, I just could not believe it.... but, sure enough, that is true. How can a city this size not have something like that you ask? Doctors moved away several years ago because of malpractice insurance rates went through the roof.
So, here I am a single mother of 2 girls in a metro city with 2 Mill + residents and one of the most traveled cities in the United States... and not ONE MD to help my 9 year old child with her condition? One daughter in high school that dearly loves her younger sister, but enjoys going to that school and not wanting to change her life in mid stride. Me, recently laid off in the construction industry and suffering from having her youngest daughter live across country with family in a much smaller city that has ALOT of doctors to help her.
What is a parent to do? Who can I contact to get this situation handled? A city of this size NEEDS to obtain proper medical care in a state of emergency in addition to healthy every day living.
If you find yourself suggesting, PA (Physican's Assistant) to me.. do not even start. Not wanting to ditch any more medical/health care ... I don't even want to discuss that idea on the forum.
If you know or have a suggestion, let's talk.. I am open to anything else.

Sorry, Mom...even the doctors know that scams abound out there and have pulled up residence. Besides, I don't think LV is known for it's renown medical community!
Your poll question sounds like you feel that your situation should be a concern to Clark County, State of Nevada...or even the Federal government????? You pay very low taxes where you live. YOU chose to move there! If you want better and more governmental services...you have to pay for that. Where you chose to live, you pay much lower taxes, and therefore receive less services....so get used to it or move to a higher taxed area.
Quick question...why'd you decide to move to LV in the first place? Too many move there thinking that every day is like it was on their last vacation.

I do soooo love polls that are loaded towards the pollsters particular bias......
SO.....the State, county of Feds should capture Doctors and MAKE them practice in Nevada.....?

dynimagelv,
Don't make this out to be a personal attack against me or anyone with children seeking medical attention. Your ignorant demeanor will only prevail over any potential logic you may trying to reflect.
I never said anything about "CAPTURE" or "MAKE" doctors practice medicine, I am only suggesting as a large city, the State of Nevada or Las Vegas should be able to organize for lack of better word sufficient medical in Las Vegas. I am only seeking a way to remedy the medical situation without having to leave the state. I am asking for advice on contact information. This can not be the only child that has a medical condition in a city of 2mill+ population.
In reply to JFK, I moved here from Montana because of a better career opportunity. Both of my daughters were born and have lived in Southern Nevada.

BUT the fact remains that it is not up to the City, County, State or Federal Government to force doctors to move here.....it's a fact of life....there ARE Doctors available to treat the ailment....if there aren't enough or they arent to your likeing then you have to go elsewhere.....
My "ignorant Demeanor" as you so tactfully put it [I assume] was in response to my comment about the loaded poll. It leaves one with no option but to vote the way you want them to vote.

Sorry, mom...I know you're only looking for a solution for your daughter here and I apologize for being insensitive to a mom in need of desperate help.
When it comes to some-type specialists, LV is sort of limited. My brother (Summerlin) had to travel to LA for a specialized condition, and as olecpat said, that may be your plight also, here.

I find it hard to believe that there's not a single pediatric endocrinologist in Las Vegas, and as Olecapt's link shows, it seems that I'd be right in that belief.
Even if there weren't, as a mother, it's your responsibility to do whatever it takes to get your child proper care- we're talking about diabetes here- not major cancer, brain trauma, or anything else that is catastrophic. If you've got to hop on a plane or drive to LA once every three months for a doctor's visit, you do it (that's really all it should take- anything in between periodic visits can be handled on the phone). My wife's cousin was born with major problems- organs in the wrong place, needed a heart transplant at 1 week old, etc.- they live in LA, and have traveled all over the western US for treatments over the past 16 years for literally dozens (maybe hundreds?) of procedures- they didn't complain to the state or county about getting better/more doctors to treat their son- they just did what they had to do.

Dynimage is not ignorant in any way. Just because he doesn't agree with your poll is not a reason to insult him.
As for a child with diabetes, try switching the diet to something that doesn't include dairy products and delete all the processed foods. For more info, check out the Health and Wellness section here in City-data. And mcdougall.com.
If you really want more doctors in this state to treat your kids, you won't find them here on a forum like this.
There are many general practitioners and pediatricians that can care for your kids in addition to the 2 that specialize in treating diabetes in kids. Doctors are everywhere here..you just have to go through several until you find one that works for you and that you like.
Or do like some said: Go elsewhere for treatment like lots of others do.

i thought the polls sounded weird.
the second choice imo sounded stupid.
if someone needs medical attention, why would they go "elsewhere" just to find it when it is readily available here in nevada ? its like saying "i need a doctor. id better pack my bags and leave" which is pretty dumb if you ask me.
