You're not going to get any sympathy here. Scoop will come along soon and suggest you drive older cars. Insurance and registration are high here. I think it's ridiculous, but there's not much you can do.

I'm not exactly looking for sympathy, just saying it for some closure.

I have owned 51 cars in my life, I've never once paid more than 20 to register it. No one told me that registering cars was insane here, nor did I think to look. I've registered cars in several states, they were all pretty similar so I had no reason to expect otherwise. Had I known about it, I'd have gotten a much older vehicle.

To the guy who pays 1600, what do you drive?

It's not like the state is blindsiding anyone. They don't make the rates secret. Anyone can use the calculator on the DMV website.

If you're paying $1200 in registration, the truck was somewhere north of $60K.

When I sold Dodges, there were some on the lot north of $70,000. Fully loaded 3500 duallys are not cheap.
That being said, my truck msrp is 38,xxx

Something's wrong... My vehicle msrp was 25k new...I paid 420.... I bought it new.

Plug in the numbers on the website -- that's what you get. I started with $30K and got a registration fee estimate in line with airics' numbers.
