Mesquite? Bunkerville? Overton? Pahrump? Indian Springs?

Very true!

Care to commute to the Strip from any of those places? I know people who do. They hate it.

From reading these replies, we will be very glad that we will be retired, if we move there in a few years. Retired and close to 70 years old. Not looking to buy a house/property. Would live in a Senior Community Complex.

Actually did not know that Henderson was somewhat colder and wetter than Vegas can get. Interesting.

Depends on where in Henderson. Anthem will be colder and a bit wetter. Green Valley is warmer than most neighborhoods in Las Vegas by 3-5 degrees. We visit friends in Summerlin often. The other day we left our house and it was 108. When we got to their house it was only 99. The hottest area (if I remember correctly) is out in Sunrise.

And "wetter" is relative. For instance, up until our rain on the 4th of July, we hadn't had a drop of rain since Nov 23rd - over 7 months - not a drop. Some neighborhoods in Las Vegas had rain in that time. Anthem, also, had rain.

But when you're talking annual rainfall of 3" vs 2", it's not really a big deal.

And that three-degree difference when it's 110f in Las Vegas isn't enough to want to buy a parka, either.

For everything that matters, Henderson is identical to Las Vegas. Pretending that they're two radically different areas isn't helpful.

Exactly. That's the point I was making with regard to the weather. 100 vs 105, 110 vs 115, 2" vs 3".. not a huge difference.

There is a huge difference between the extreme west part of town and the extreme east part of town, though.

Even though it appears that the OP is moving to the Vegas area, we are only "thinking" about it for the future. I just looked at the local news in the Las Vegas Sun Times and noticed that Summerlin seems to be one of the only "crime-free" areas in the Vegas area. I'm going to keep this newspaper in our "Favorites" b/c we don't hear about the crime in/around Vegas on our local news. The amount of crime could definitely be a "decision maker" for us old folks.......but, then again, Vegas is no "small town" either.

There is no "crime free" section of Las Vegas. There's not even a crime free section. Crime isn't bad for a city this size. But I wouldn't leave a Honda Civic parked out in the driveway ANYWHERE in the Las Vegas valley.

Also, it's the Las Vegas Sun. No Times. That's Chicago.
