Found my first scorpion in my house today [ freakimg out ]
I found scorpion in living room that contained 30 boxes of enginered wood flooring for past 2 weeks, boxes opened on the sides. I am wondering if a lone scorpion was in one of the delivered boxes then crawled out. The wood flooring was shipped from PA and was in LV warehouse overnight before being delivered. I swept the interior and exterior with a black light with negative results. I have two young kids and I'm worried about them. Advise please.

Below pic is of the scorpion after I dropped a cookie try on it
Is this a Bark scorpion ?

It was 100% a scorpion as I saw it move. That pic is a crushed scorpion as I dropped a baking pan on top of it. In the pick u are looking at the scorpions belly.

It's a scorpion. And you're likely to see more of them.

Invest in a UV light (aka a "blacklight") and occasionally use it to sweep your house at night. Scorpions are nocturnal and they glow under UV light.

They're in your house looking for shelter, food and water. Restrict food and water and your house will be less attractive. Finally, they're getting in somehow. It's not very fun going around the perimeter of the house, looking for cracks and holes where insects can gain access to the living spaces. But it's something that needs to be done.

Or you can pay someone to spray the bejeezus around your perimeter with poison. I am against poisoning the land and the soil on principle. I'd rather caulk and wipe down the shower each night.

Check for any trees that may be overgrown and touching your roof or any attic vents. We had several of them pop up last summer, but only on our second floor. Once we trimmed a tree back, their "highway" was gone, and we didn't see any more.

That is a Sun Spider, not a scorpion. You can tell by the mouth, and the fact that it does not have a tail. Here is a better picture http://www.whatsthatbug.com/wp-conte...gid_darius.jpg

OMG--I have been here too long when I knew what it was before Bug Billy even called it! We have had a sun spider in our home. For some stupid reason we decided it was quicker to bring a new gas grill through our house. The next morning, we found one of these critters in a corner of our living room. I did save it in a plastic bag and waited anxiously for the exterminator. He told us what it was and then proceeded to tell us how big they can get!!

It's a Sun Spider, not a scorpion.

If you hang around the Mirage Hotel near the water and the volcano, you might see one here and there, particularly in the early evening when they come out to hunt for food. They are large and very, very creepy looking. You don't see too many of them around, but they are here and I do believe they hitch rides on and in things shipped to Las Vegas from other southwest desert regions.

Here are some pics off the interent, but the one all the way on your right is a photo I took of a Sun Spider at the Mirage at one of the weddings I was at, at the Mirage near the water and volcano.

Blessings
