I was going through another similar thread on here and almost all the restaurants mentioned are now closed like Shari's Diner as an example. Very sad.

I know the diner at White Cross drugstore near the Stratosphere used to serve the dishes you are craving but I have not been there in a while. Any greasy spoon spots in town, you might want to try Peppermill or Dupars.

Cheesecake Factory serve delicious Shepherds Pie, large serving so if you are in during the lunch hours just order the lunch portion. You can order either the lunch or dinner portion during lunch time.

It looks like Tiffany's Café inside of the White Cross Drugstore has a very good menu including open face roast beef and gravy with mashed potatoes. I will be trying this place very soon. Open 24hrs too!!!
Thanks for that!!!!

I've been to both Jamms and Black Bear. While I like Jamms, Black Bear is better. For years when I lived on that side of town, BB was my go to breakfast place every Sunday.

Tacos El Gordo!!! Two locations; one on the strip near the Wynn; the other at 1724 E. Charleston. I've heard the one on the strip gets VERY busy; I've only been to the one on Charleston.

Weiss Deli was pretty darn good. It's in a shopping center with Trader Joe's and there is plenty of parking but the location is pretty average. It looks like a deli but more tables than deli space. I understand they make Challah every day but you have to get there early. They were already sold out when we got there. Some of the deli offerings look good and I will have to go back for chopped liver.

At first glance it looks expensive for a sandwich shop but the portions are huge. It took us three days to plow through the leftovers. 2 adults could easily share a bowl of soup and a sandwich. They do serve egg creams and Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray soda! First time I have seen it in Vegas.

I ordered Cecily's Stack. 2 huge latkes with sliced brisket in the middle. Sort of like a stack of pancakes. Then they melt cheese over the top and cover the whole thing with a brown gravy seasoned with rosemary. It was about 4in high and as big around as a Cool Whip container. It was delicious and I ate about 1/3 of it and took the rest home. But the leftovers were just as good as the first day. We shared a 'small' bowl of Matzoh Ball Soup and the ball was actually light and fluffy like it's supposed to be.

SO got a corned beef and pastrami on rye with slaw and Russian dressing. The meats actually had flavor and not too much fat. Seriously the sandwich was 6 inches tall. And served with a half done pickle. Hadn't had one of those in years! We ended up taking most of the sandwich home too.

The servers were friendly and happy to tell us newbies all about the place. It had a neighborhood deli kind of atmosphere complete with the local Jewish newspapers. I didn't even know there were any here. We will go back again. The menu is pretty large and there are enough choices for any group. Everything looked and tasted home made!

Two cheap eats that I like in Las Vegas:

The pho dishes at Pho Vietnam on Spring Mountain Rd.

Most of the bahn mi sandwiches along Spring Mountain Rd.

Bahn mi is just about the best thing ever. And ever since Mr. Sandwich in the 99 Ranch Plaza has closed, I've been looking for a go-to.

I don't like Lee's Sandwich because that's "bahn mi for Americans." I've tried the place on Tropicana, near UNLV. Just wasn't the same as Mr. Sandwich. Seriously, I need to find a replacement. When I cannot stand the thought of casino employee food (aka "the EDR"), my strategy is always to partake of the "Buy five, get one free" and give five sandwiches to my coworkers.

I wouldn't disagree with you that Lee's is not the best. However, it sure beat anything that I could get for twice the price at the Rio my last visit to Las Vegas. And it is open at 3 AM when I am hungry.
