I was up and thought someone was trying to break into the house. I heard it more than felt it. Scared me.

The odds of a heavy damaging earthquake in LAas Vegas are small. Frame and stucco building survive very well. Get some damage but generally minor. And the standard deductibles on the insurance practically never pay off. We lived through a few. There are some odd problems. Had a friend who took some damage in the Northridge quake because his pool got excited into oscillating and ended up driving through his patio doors. Four or five grand I think it was. That isa bout the worst I know of for longer range quakes which is what is likely here. Had a co-worker who had a ancient two story masonry home in a 6 where the first floor completely collapsed but the second was almost completely intact sitting in the remains of the first. They actually recovered virtually all their possessions from the second floor though the first was a total loss.

If you advance search Las Vegas for earthquakes you will find a number of threads with pretty good data. The chance of a close in at 6.0 or above are very small. And lesser even close in are at worst as minor threat.
