What are the specs on your media PC?

My current setup is a Mini-ITX Media PC with Windows installed running Plex Media Center software hooked up via HDMI to my big screen TV.

I have a Western Digital 3TB (going to upgrade soon) drive running a modified version of Linux. That drive is running the following programs:

Sickbeard -- TV Shows
Couch Potato -- Movies
NZBget -- NZB downloader
Transmission -- Torrent Downloader

I have an automated script that takes downloads, renames the files, downloads artwork and Movie / TV info from IMDB moves them into a highly organized folder structure and pushes scan requests to Plex.

Netflix and Hulu and Youtube are all integrated into Plex.

It sounds complicated and in many respects is probably above those who aren't tech savy, but that's my setup and it's free aside from hardware costs (About $400)

It's a Core i3 (not sure the frequency)
8 GB DDR3
1 GB Nvidia card (low profile)
Blu Ray Drive

I have an Xbox controller and a regular logitech controller for gaming. The gaming power isn't the greatest but I have it setup for retro gaming and anything else that I want to play can be streamed with Steam Home Play.

Basically, it's not under-powered and would probably outperform most pre-builds (4000 series i3) but it's not my i7 either.

If your looking to build your media collection via torrent. Build an energy efficient NAS server running Free NAS and you can run Sickbeard, Couch Potato, Transmission in jails and the box will just sit there and sip power. Any celeron Chrome box or Intel Nuc will stream your HD video and audio to your AV system without breaking a sweat running either Plex or Kodi.

My NAS Drive (WD Mybook Live) is running all of these applications on a modified Linux OS... my media-pc is merely an outlet to display the information.

If I want to upgrade, I would consider FreeNAS though.

Free NAS serving up media via Plex or Kodi is the way to go these days. Add a HD homerun to the mix along with Myth TV backend running on the NAS and you have live and recorded tv. Windows Media Center is on the way out. MS does not care about it anymore and has been too lazy to even fix it.

I haven't used Windows Media Center in a really long time. Lately it's just been XBMC and Plex (which happens to be a modded XBMC lol).

As far as FreeNAS is concerned, I don't store THAT much media at the moment and my WD Drive is plenty powerful enough to serve my media to the computer. If there's anything I'd like to do, it would be to reduce the size of my media-pc while maintaining it's gaming capability.

Regarding HD Homerun, I don't have cable and don't care to watch TV either. Virtually all of my media I want to see is online. But I'm intrigued and will watch a video on it so that I can learn about it's capabilities!

If you feel like paying for them, personally I don't have Hulu and have Netflix from my mother's account which I almost never utilize.
