This is the best advise ever given. I just did some research and found out that I can have both dogs registered as emotional support dogs. And, I can have more than one dog as long as they both provide emotional support.

It will be no problem having my doctor write a note saying that I need and get emotional support from my dogs. He knows I'd be an emotional wreck if I have to give them up. Also I do suffer from depression arising from medication that I am already taking.

I know I could handle and accept the death of one or both of my dogs, but I doubt that I would ever be able to recover from the guilt of abandoning them.

Again everyone, THANK YOU!

P.S To those of you who pointed out what a monster I was to even consider abandoning my dogs; Thank you also. I needed to hear that a well!
Good! I got called out for suggesting that putting them down might be an option, better than a shelter. Then I recalled scoop bitching about yappers that get certified as service animals so that they can drag the dogs around in their purses. Better idea! Your neighbors are unlikely to complain about a couple of sweet, old , quiet labs that are service animals.

Best wishes.

I strongly suggest you do solicit your neighbors for support even if the Service Animal thing works. It will all go a lot smoother if everyone is in on the deal and nobody is trying to stop you from taking advantage of the Service Animal thing.

I lost the dog who got to me a couple of years ago...and it was traumatic. We walked into the vet together but only I came out. I think I won't get that close to a dog again over the pain involved. Got a bad ass cat now...and he keeps me in my place.

Please check in periodically and let us know how it goes. Some clever people here.
