I believe voting DOES matter, otherwise interest groups wouldn't spend so much trying to sway votes. The problem is that a republic stands on two legs: a free and robust press, and an informed and enthusiastic electorate. We have neither. Nothing will ever improve while the status quo remains. And it gets worse every two years. I haven't seen any improvement in my lifetime.

The last election could have been a reality show. There was little difference. The republican primaries OMG. That really was a reality show. A bunch of brain dead morons getting voted off. Even the stage screamed reality show.

OK, let's make it local. How many robocalls are people getting each day? I'm getting more than 20. And the endless parade of morons knocking on my door stumping for one of the candidates. Because of where I live, everyone seems to assume that I must be some kind of arch-conservative. The crap these people spew churns my stomach -- how can they stand there and lie through their teeth? I read several newspapers each day -- I know that nobody is coming for my guns. Nobody is going to take my job and give it to an illegal alien. Healthcare is not going to bankrupt me. And yet the nitwit at the door insists that all of this and more is going to happen tomorrow if I don't make the "right" choices at the polls. Emphasis on "right."

These people are willfully ignorant. And they're precisely what is wrong with our community. Facts, apparently, are off the table every two years in October and November.

EDIT -- Between the time I posted this and just now, I received two more Robocalls. It is simply unacceptable how often my phone rings.

Scoop-- if you change your phone number on your voter registration to your cell number, you will not get Robocalls. You can get some live calls on your cell, but it is unlawful for you to get Robocalls on your cell. The only Robocalls I get are from people using old lists-- apparently an older woman who was a staunch republican used to have my number and that is who I get calls for even though I've had this number for about 8 years! I get cell calls from the Democratic Party, but they are all live calls wondering when I'm going to vote. Historically, I always vote early, but this time I waited for Election Day.

Silence can be louder than a scream, so the first time, I'm going to "scream" instead!

As for judges, if I did vote, rather than scream, I'd vote male judges all the way. I've read enough true crime books to discover that female judges hand out the stiffer sentences, particularly when it comes to cases of violence!

In one true crime I read, a black criminal suspect, learning he'd be facing a female black judge, said: It's over! She's gonna send me to Death Row!

Famous lawyer, Gerry Spence, in his book Give Me Liberty, merely deems voting as entertainment for Americans. Nothing more!

I live behind a gate, so no solicitations allowed here. I'm also exclusively on a cell phone (with a little Skype for international calls), so no robocalls or any solicitations at all. If it weren't for the constant TV commercials, I would never know there was an election going on.
