Actually He was already a millionaire by 1982 He had two decades of partial private law practice to assemble an estate. And he was an attorney with impeccable credentials in gaming law - a very lucrative field.

Again with the heavies after him and nothing but innuendos and snide asides I believe he is pretty well clean if once in a while a little careless on details.

Note a couple of these stories would have been quite interesting if he had made a killing...but he did not.

I really don't know who to direct my disappointment with, but with the Ogden reportedly being 100% occupied, that tells you something! Yes, perhaps, one day, this Milennial generation will overcome their distaste for the automobile, but until then, where or where is the new apartment buildings that should be popping up downtown? Tony Hsieh's efforts have only been dribbles, as far as increased housing. it's quite obvious it's not one of his priorities, as long as he's comfortable in his penthouse at the Ogden!

And? If the city can open up its wallet with subsidies for Cornish/a stadium, why not direct some of that money to subsidizing apartment building developers? Not even a senior apartment building, which I think would be a roaring success! Even downtown Henderson has a nice new senior apartment complex!

Isn't this something that our current Mayor could superhead, in lieu of her (actually I think it's her husband that's driving her to do it!) stadium dream?

And will a stadium actually fuel new housing? I had a condo just 3 blocks east of the Metrodome Stadium in downtown Minneapolis, and it did absolutely nothing to bring about more housing downtown. Only more razed buildings for parking!

As far as a light rail system, I've abandoned that dream for this city given all the obstacle courses. And there are alternatives. Bogota, Colombia proves that, they went full-tilt with a Rapid bus lane system and they're doing quite well without the rail system or subway.

And this city, I've found out, can't be shamed or embarrassed. We look to our neighbors, Phoenix and Salt Lake City, with their ever growing rail systems, even Tucson with its streetcars, and it doesn't faze our leaders in the least!

One important new land mark not mentioned is the Smith Center which the Goodmen's were very involved in. This has been a success and brought some culture and first rate entertainment to Las Vegas. As far as investments in public transportation, housing and etc to attract investors you must first prove their is a market for such things. The only way Fremont St will grow is with a large stadium so head liner stars will appear, big attractions such as NRF,NASCAR,and of course sports teams will have a Home and bring their talents to LV once that is in place the public transportation can be justified. So addressing Harry Reid he only has a say in Federal moneys and etc and has brought many very successful project to LV concerning intra structure because of his status in the US Senate and not just for LV but the whole state of NV. I can not wait for the day Oscar.Caroline, and Harry are not with us in politics for then you will hear how we wished them back and then realize things were not so bad when they ran the roost.

i think it would be most important just to have the monorail get to the airport. Working at the airport, i know tons and tons of the tourists are getting long hauled.

Last week, one of my customers told me that the cab, from the airport, took Tropicana to LVB, turned left, went about to the outlet stores, and hopped on the Freeway, to get him to the Flamingo.

Finally! Common sense! Wouldn't tourists have more time and money to spend if they could just hop on a train and not have to stand in line for a cab that may or may not rip them off? Certainly the high rollers that really matter can be picked up by limo? I would rather spend in the casino than on a cab. We have a lot of family who visit and their biggest complaint about Vegas is getting in and out of the airport when it is so close to the Strip. As locals really do not matter, according so some posters, then hear what tourists are saying. Also, if there ever is a stadium downtown, where will the traffic go? It is already a snails pace without a high capacity event venue. More cabs will not fix that.

The County Commissioners have more political power than the City Mayor, the Mayor is basically a figure with limited power in the grand scheme of things.

monkey see monkey do too much $$$$ are being made and the politicians get their re-election contributions padded by the taxi, casino and other groups. The good old boys network is going strong as ever. The first to be done is flat rate for taxi's eliminate the long hauling. This has been almost impossible to get passed through so that tell you how much control they have . Any other means of public transportation will not be allowed because of this and until the grip of the taxi co's is broken expect no other changes to happen

Note again that is a state legislature issue. And Las Vegas just passed the control of those bodies to the Republicans who are upstate dominated.

So it is reasonably clear Las Vegas does not care very much about any of these issues.

You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours, the parties involved in this situation are doing just fine without any developments as far as street level rail line. Look at the monorail, it has not even been extended to the airport considering the VERY SHORT distance it will take to connect it!
