I am! Let's hope some really fresh blood gets in next time, a younger Millennial Mayor? And not Tony Hseih, for God's sakes!

A bicycle riding mayor, like some other cities have elected, that would be nice! Has Carolyn or Oscar Goodman ever bicycled to and from City Hall to their home in Scotch 80's, and left the Mercedes in the garage? And we should all know that Oscar isn't going to rest in peace until a stadium is built downtown!

Downtown streetcars are coming back all over the country, how about a Mayor that would push for something like that? Or, rather than spending all that money subsidizing that stadium, spend that money on extending the monorail to downtown?

Who would you like to see succeed the Goodman's? What would be most beneficial to the City of Las Vegas? And I know the election is a ways a way from now!

We need;

1. A high speed train running from downtown LA to the strip.

2. A monorail that goes from the airport and loops around all of LV BLVD.

3. To finish all 95 and 215 freeway projects.

4. To continue revitalizing downtown.

Any mayor that can actually do these things within a reasonable amount of time has my interest.

Any mayor that can do 1 or 2 has a bloody genie in a bottle. I'd be interested in that too.

Yeah, for some reason, the Goodmans are intent on building a stadium...foolish.

I don't care if the next mayor rides a bike to work, what do I care, in fact if our next mayor rides a bike, he may get killed doing it.

Lets remember where the city of Las Vegas is.

Its north of Sahara Ave, so a mayor or the city of Las Vegas would not have too much say in anything south of Sahara and certainly not in charge of any freeways.

One thing that would be nice and the mayor could do, would be street cars or a trolley system. It could be on Las Vegas Blvd and Sahara along Las Vegas Blvd to Fremont and maybe another trolley from the Plaza Casino to Boulder Hwy right thru the covered Fremont.

Harry Reid has been working on item 1. Since I was a teenager. The mag lev train, the bullet train, etc. don't hold your breath.

The monorail was originally proposed to go from the airport down the strip. The casinos and the taxi authority blocked it.

If Bruce Woodbury ( the 215 is named after him) and Harry Reid can't get these projects done, there is no way in hell that a mayor can. Most people in the valley don't even live or work in the mayor's jurisdiction. The strip is not even in Las Vegas.

More bike lanes and landscaping within city limits would be nice. And not those sculptures either. I'm talking mesquite trees for some xeric shade!

I'm painfully aware of the fact that going south of Sahara is the realm of the casino mogul slaves, the Clark County Commissioners.

So that leaves any great hope with the Mayor of Las Vegas.

All it takes is a bike-riding/bike-loving Mayor to come into office across the country, and it can happen very fast. Witness NYC, under Bloomberg, with bike lanes now growing all over Manhattan. Same with L.A. and San Francisco. Finally, L.A., has jumped on the bike lane wagon! Chicago will have 100 miles of bike lanes by next year, and 650 miles of them by 2020. And we're not talking just recreational bike lanes either!

Mayor Villagariosa, L.A.,'s last Mayor was entitled Subway King. Swung 68% of the voters to approve a half-percent sales to tax to fund their ever-growing light rail and subway system. Detroit is building a light rail train from downtown to Midway, and 3 well-funded Foundations in that city, one being the Ford Foundation, is coughing up the $800 million to build it. And, potentially, we have Adelson and Wynn to help pay for it, without additional taxes?

I'm tired of Carolyn Goodman kissing the feet of Tony Hseih! I really thought he was going to bring skads of new housing downtown, and as the Ogden is, reportedly, 100% occupied, and it takes a lot of time to get apartment building built, where's the new housing Tony? Haven't we got enough entertainment options, Yuppie/Milennial bars restaurants downtown?

I love sculpture, and I all but cry my eyes out when I see cities with lots of outdoor sculptures in their downtown area, like Dallas/Philadelphia (even St. George, UT!) and don't we have enough wealthy donors to add some to our downtown area?

With Oscar, with his foot to the floorboard for an arena downtown, don't be at all surprised, if, in December it gets approved!

The mayor has nothing to do with any of that except the downtown project, because the other things aren't even in the City of Las Vegas.

Didn't you just show up? Aren't my ears still vibrating from the slamming of your car door when you got here? And you want to change our mayor?

Oscar did a lot of good things for Las Vegas. Probably more than several of the past mayors combined. I admit, the co-mayors have gone off the deep end a little bit on the stadium project, but they both really love this city. I think they moved here the same year I did - 1964.

I apologize if I'm wrong about how long you've lived here, but it seems like not long. So please wait until you become a true Nevadan before telling us how we should be.

You are just beating the hell out of that dead horse. He ain't gonna get up. The Mayor is not a player in the big Las Vegas game. That is played out on the County Commission and the State Legislature. The Mayor never even gets to comment.

And there is very little control by the Casinos on the Commissioner. A number of the Commissioner are quite free of undue influence. They don't really need big money...like Chris G and Tom Collins...There is lots of politics and very little strip influence.

Now the State Legislature? That can be weird and on a lot of this stuff is actually in control. How on earth can the Taxicab Authority and the School District in Las Vegas be part of the state? Is that not absurd?

Since 1905 (no I wasn't here, but I've heard and seen it since 1964), the politicians in Las Vegas have kissed the feet of anyone that comes from more than 50 miles away and has a briefcase, because he must be an expert. They are always wrong, but they keep doing it. Probably a lot of money changing hands....but, get used to it.
