Man, what's with the preponderance of negative stances?

I liken NYE on The Strip to the experience of NYE on Times Square. Yeah, in certain ways it's a pain in the arse, but it really is something to see. There's a palpable vibe in the crowd that's incredible.

As I noted before, I did NYE on The Strip once. Now, I just enjoy watching the madness from my balcony as my family and I eat and drink the New Year in. It's the biggest show in town.

Bill

We have been the past 3 years for New Year's Eve and plan to go again this year. It's a fun way to start the year. The first year we watched the fireworks shoulder to shoulder with the crowd on the Strip. It was an experience. Everyone should do it once. The years after that we rented a condo at the Signature with a strip view balcony that gave us a great view. This year we booked a suite at the Monte Carlo that should give us a good view of the fireworks. If the view isn't great from the room we'll watch from the top level of the parking garage.

It's the lowest class, most boring thing one could do on NYE. How fun is it to get in a crush of people, most of them drinking out of those cheap plastic 64 oz. statues of Liberty, idiots with young children, overweight babes wearing blouses for a dress, drunken people puking on the street and religious zealots hitting their Bibles and preaching the end of the world has come. You cannot get out of the crowd to go into a nice casino. You just keep moving and walking and hope you don't get crushed to death. Finally got out of it by midnight and were able to drive back to the suburbs where we live. sit on a lush hill and watch the fireworks with normal people.

I moved out here in 2009 and it was not like that. It got worse and worse every year since then. I agree with you on how it is now, but it was not always this way.

We did something different when we went into 2000, as we thought the Strip was insane then. We went out to the foothills of Mt. Charleston, had a campfire, with steak and champagne, and slept in a tent. Woke up the next morning with a sunny, winter mountain day, a new century, and not another soul in sight. Had coffee and breakfast. Then we packed up, cleaned up, and went home to sleep. It was wonderful!

We went the first time about 13 years ago. To the Strip. Got stuck in a crushing crowd. Had to link hands with lots of strangers to not get trampled. We finally made it out of there after about two hour's and half the time had breath cut off. But this was right near the heart of it all. Vowed to never do it again. But did go again a few years after the first. But this time stayed at the northern end, by the Riviera. No crushing crowds, and it was ok. It has probably changed a lot since then though.
Went to Fremont street the last several years, but didn't really like it as well as real fireworks going off like on the Strip. It gets really old after awhile, the same old thing. So we quit that too. Now it's just a locals casino. They all do the countdown no matter where you go, and many give out free champagne and party hats.

People move like cattle down the strip without enough room to lift your arm up to get a drink from whatever you are sipping on. The casinos had shut their doors, so you couldn't get in without a room key. That means no buying drinks and no bathrooms even if you could get to one. Once we decided we were just standing in a crowd, not moving and had nowhere to go, we just hung outside Bally's, right off the street to get some breathing room and watch the fireworks. There alcohol, people passed out and vomit everywhere. It was something I had to experience, but I would never do it again.

Regarding the Strip, I'm not sure of the time...I think around 7 or 8 pm all sidewalks and entry into hotels are blocked off. Unless you can show your room key to the security, there is no way to get into a hotel after this point. You can't move as it is shoulder to shoulder on the strip so it can take an hour just to get from one door to another at a casino. No access to bathrooms or porta potties out there either...Which is always fun with drunk woo girls and guys peeing and puking on your shoes...:-) Yes, I did spend NYE on the Strip once...Won't do it again. Haven't done NYE on Fremont yet but may be a better alternative to get your car out. If you have any claustrophobia or feel panicky with thousands of people pushing up against you don't do it.

I wouldn't think it needed to be said, but people should never take their kids to the strip on NYE.
