We used to have a professional basketball team...it was called the UNLV Rebels. Then some a-hole that carried his suit jacket over his shoulder for some kind of self aggrandizement fired the coach and left town himself.

Anyway, UNLV basketball games are always sold out.

At the behest of Elaine Wynn who considered Tark " low class."

I always found Jerry to be a gentleman. His son, not so much.

I've said this many times already, Vegas is a BASKETBALL/ Boxing / UFC city.

NorthernEasterners / Midwesterners / Canadians / are wanting ICE HOCKEY and SOCCER over BASKETBALL.

Ha! What a joke , I'm going to laugh if they do get NHL or MLS there build an arena, and nobody ever shows up to buy tickets!

Vegas needs to first get an NBA team, a good idea would be to get an NBA team in one of the casinos or at the UNLV current arena.

Once the NBA team is successful, Vegas will then than need a NFL team, than eventually later on an MLB team.

Hockey and soccer are dead last when it comes to what should be built in Vegas first, DEAD LAST !

If you are so sure of this go round up $500 million or so and tell the NBA and the MGM you are right and all these other people are wrong. Should be real easy to do if all you say is correct, right?

No but it could be pretty much the same if we didn't have a tendency to let outsiders like that come in and take over, ruin things, then move on. Has always been that way and it still is. Hire local --only 20 year residents need apply.

I, like EA, am not a big sports fan, just an occasional viewer, but I think there's a little NHL team and their fans in Los Angeles who might disagree that hockey is only big in other parts of the country..

Always been a huge sports freak... And I'm hoping that CityKing is a troll... Dude's perception of sports is horrendous.
First of all, to your comment ...

I'm going to laugh if they do get NHL or MLS there build an arena, and nobody ever shows up to buy tickets!"

The arena where the NHL team would play is being built regardless of whether Vegas lands a hockey team or not. That was always MGM's plan. They are going to move their big title fights and concerts to the new arena. An NHL team would just be icing on the cake for them as far as using the arena more days per year.

The only way the soccer stadium is getting built downtown is IF Las Vegas is awarded an expansion team by the MLS. If the MLS chooses one of the other two teams in the running (Sacramento, Minneapolis), then nothing will be built. So as far as building investments go, there is basically no risk / nothing to lose.

You keep mentioning NBA over and over again... With an attached link, show me an NBA team that wants to relocate to Las Vegas... OR, show an article stating that the NBA is looking to expand. Those are the only two ways Vegas could get a team... But since neither of those options currently exist, LV will NOT be getting an NBA team. I dont see how this is difficult to understand.

Do you realize how much work goes into even seeing if a market is sports-worthy? It's not just... Whelp, an arena is being built, lets slap some jerseys on some fools and hit the hardwood! No dude.
- Area Population
- Most common industries / what shifts do they work?
- Median household income
- Tourism
- Previous sports in city
- Other competition for resident dollars
And MANY other things...

Not to mention the fact that the NBA accounts for a huge percentage of wagers from the Sports Books. Adam Silver, commissioner of the NBA, is fighting to try and fully legalize sports betting nationwide... But until that happens, it makes a team in Vegas impossible. They would NEVER give up all that green.

That's why I dont understand why you are hating on the NHL so much. They (along with potential ownership group and Wayne Gretzky as an advisor) are going about this perfectly. Dont rush into it... In February, they are hosting a season ticket drive to find out firsthand how many people have interest. As far as the gambling aide of it, NHL accounts for only 3% of all sportsbook betting... MLS is even smaller.

As far as NFL and MLB... Keep dreaming. You would need a domed stadium first of all... Which out here would cost (at the very minimum) half a billion dollars... And once again... The same problem arises... Who is going to move their team here? Neither league has plans for expansion.
MLB is solid right now. Nobody is going to move anytime soon.
NFL IS a bit shaky, but the three cities that are likely to get a team soon are LA, San Antonio and London.
LA is chomping at the bit for a team and when they finally get a stadium approved, either Oakland, San Diego or St. Louis are moving there.
London is on the short list as well... This is why they have been hosting at least three NFL games the past few seasons.

Inform yourself next time.
