Anyone familiar with Woodside homes?
I'm interested in one of their properties and was wondering if they build quality homes. Opinions?

jotnick...I haven't heard anything negative about them. I'm looking at buying a home myself and have been to their website. Just curious, what drove you to that builder vice a different one? Style, location, price, etc...?? Thanks.

Jotnik it does not matter who your builder is for the most part. If you buy a Woodside home, I can assure you the owners, Larry Ellison CEO or corporation that owns it never lifed a single tool to build your home.
Instead most all the builders here use the same sub-contractors. Whether it is Pulte, Toll, Woodside, KB, Beazer, Lennor...I think I named them all, you are getting the same house built with the same exact materials by the same contractors.
You see all the builders use Efficent Electric, KBI Framers, ABC Plumbing etc. No one from Woodside offices ever seen your home let alone saw to it quality standards were met. Quality standards are usually left up to the Supers at each job site. They leave much to be desired too.
All the homes are the same, built by all the same sub contractors. The main difference lies in the customer service. With that you will find Pulte on the top of the list from customer surveys across the whole country. These surveys by JD Powers Assc. tell the story and every single year Pulte wins out for customer service hands down. This is no plug for Pulte but Im just telling you the facts.
I personally owned a Woodside home in Snoberlin and can not say one bad thing about it. I work for all of these builders and know their quirks in and out.
Now if you want to ask about KB homes then I could send you to Walmart.
If you need more information go here:
Consumer Complaints about Woodside Homes
You will find many consumer complaints about Woodside. Take it with a grain of sand. If you check any builder you will find the same exact thing. A builder can build the best home on earth and people will find things to cry about.
Good luck to you

How about AllWest Homes and Heller Homes?
Thanks for all the replies thus far. I realize that many of these builders' reputation is local (share the same subcontractor labor pool) but I'm still looking for any insight into these individual builders.
For AllWest Homes I can't seem to find any information online about them. They're a small builder, mostly in Summerlin I think.

A friend of my family's just bought a home down in Mtn's Edge built by Woodside. They seem to have a nice design, and a very nice layout. I did notice a lack of closet space, but maybe that was just the model that they bought.
My opinion is that every builder is going to have its good points and high points, and people that love them and hate them. I would say just look around at different styles and builders and chose the one that you like the most, or the one that is going to be the best fit.
Make sure, whichever one you do happen to pick, you find out any and all warranties, etc. and stick to your guns if something needs fixin'

Yes I have owned 2 Woodside homes the first was a pleasent experience but the 2nd has been nothing but trouble my master bath was torn apart for 3 months, and I had to keep calling to try and get it put back together, our concrete in our driveway approach is sinking and they refuse to repair it. I know I would never buy another home from Woodside I believe them to be decietful and dishonest.

Woodside declared bankruptcy in August. They claim, however, that they have plenty of cash on hand & continue to build.

I'd go with quality of the neighborhood first, then look into little things like, appliance manufacturer, vented hood over stove, A/C type, interior finishes (base, casing, sizes and quality of installation), smooth walls or textured, for someone to say each builder is about the same is def. not the case if you look at the details. Also, go the the neighborhood your interested in around 5:30 - 6:30 at night and take a walk and strike up conversations with the neighbors and you'll get the true insight into what type of experience they had with the said builder. Homes these days are build so tight and efficient that no matter who you go with you'll prob. get a similiar good product, but really look at the details, the small things done right show what type of builder your getting.

Stay away from Woodside Homes... I own a house from them and have had nothing but trouble as well as every single person in my neighborhood. They lie to you to get you to buy things and then do not deliver.
By the way THEY ARE IN CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY right now....
