There was a family of Quail across the street from me Sunday morning. That is about 150 yards from Buzz's front door.

If you walk around Sun City Summerlin with a stick and whack each landscaping you pass about every fourth one will yield a quail family. Had one house we showed a couple of times where we had to negotiate passage with a Quail Family. Mom and Pop would actually get aggressive...so I was sent ahead to shepherd the kids out of the front patio before the clients would enter.

I saw plenty of bats in Aliante this fall. Every evening they were flying all over the place. There are some smaller neighborhood flood tunnels, I wonder if they live in there.

The one thing I have had a lot of luck with here in LV is my hummingbird feeders. I think I have two or three local birds that dispute ownership of my feeders . I'm planning to take a trip to the Cold Creek area in hopes of getting a view of some elk and some of the wild horses.

Now and then I see quail, roadrunners, rabbits, chipmunks, migrating tarantulas, killdeer, burrowing owls, realtors, etc.; but there used to be large mesquite forests, believe it or not, all around the Sunset Park area (and The Wayner's Shenandoah), and between Lamb and Nellis - Sahara and Charleston, among other areas, that were loaded with wildlife. Quail Park, or whatever it's called, Sunset Road and Eastern, is an example of killing the quail, then naming the abomination that was built in their territory after them. We did the same thing to the Indians. I see jack and bunny rabbits at Sunset Park ...or did the last time I was there, and I'd say there are still a few quail there; but nothing like it was in "the good old days" that we long time residents miss so much. I usually am the first to see wildlife, but haven't seen the numbers of quail that olecapt sees. But then I'm not out beating the bushes that much anymore either. I did skin and eat one of olecapt's feral cats the other day.

I was out on a hike on the outskirts of the city yesterday an I came across these three different burrows. The only critters I saw were one huge jack rabbit. These are two different burrows about a hundred yards from each other. I am curious if these are from the rabbits or something else.
