How are the bus lines?
Just wanted to ask how good are the bus lines in Las Vegas? I will be living either in Summerlin or Henderson area. So how good are the buses to get me from there to the strip and back? Do they work 24/7? And whats the cost?
I wont be having a car when I first move there, maybe later on but Im not a big fan of driving anyway

You need a car in Las Vegas wherever you go. Las Vegas doesn't have any public transportation system set up.

You can live in The Lakes area, next to Summerlin, which is a good area, and get the bus to different locations from there.
Or if you want more bus choices, pick Spring Valley. Older, more established area, but still ok.

Pink gives good advice.
Try and decide where you are working and then decide where to live after becoming expert with the CAT bus map. It can be done. But you have to deal with it up front. Las Vegas is car oriented. So those who would like to do public transit need to plan ahead.
West side generally works. Stay between Charleston and Russell and west of Decatur. Near a big arterial so you get good 24 hour bus service.

Thank you very much for recommending the areas with the best bus service. Ill be sure to look for a place in those areas. I understand that without a car its pretty hard, hence I live in a place where the nearest bus stop is 7 miles away and they go so rare that its pointless. If the buses dont work out for me then ill get a car. But if it goes well, then ill be more than happy.

One nice thing about the CAT system is that you can put your bicycle on special racks in front of the buses. It's especially convenient if you have a medium distance, like a mile or less between your house and the bus line and between the bus line and work. You don't want to have to transfer to a N/S route though. Stick close to the E/W bus line closest to your work.
BTW, Zip codes for Spring Valley and The Lakes are 89147 and 89117. If you want East of the strip, I'd recommend 89120.
I commend you for wanting to commute this way. It's good for your body and for the environment and I wish more people in this city gave it a try. I did it for several years and still ride my bike to work on occassion when the sun is out later and the weather is better.

I don't live in Las Vegas but the in laws have a condo out there. Every time hubby and I go we take the bus. It is only $2.80 from the airport to their condo in NW Vegas so its very economical. We also take the bus to get to the strip or most of the things we do when in town and I have to say that it is a great system. Here in Detroit you take a chance that the buses will be very late or not running but we never have a problem in LV.
While it does make your commute a longer it is a great public system compared to many others and the website is very easy to navigate.
