I'll be watching it on PPV and enjoying food and spirits with some friends that I invited over.

Prices at all MGM hotels are falling fast...MGM Grand was $1,520 yesterday, today the rate for Saturday night is $499. All of the MGM hotels still have rooms available which on a normal Saturday in May is abnormal plus with the addition of the Kentucky Derby it makes it really abnormal rooms are still available at all of their properties. MGM will still win with the PPV and sponsors...less crowd will actually be a good thing for MGM.

Not surprising. I said it weeks ago, they didn't really want to sell any rooms. They and all the competition were hoping to fill as many rooms with good casino customers as they could, but if some fool wanted to pay stratospheric rates for mediocre rooms so be it. That's why they insanely priced rooms, they knew other than those who really had to be there (like the media or degenerate boxing fans) no one else was going to bite. They got what they could, now they all know exactly how many rooms are left and they are going to price them at what it will take to fill them.

I think MGM clearly knew within a short amount of time how many hotel rooms they would hold back...MGM as over 5,000 rooms alone. I think many hotels just raised rates because they thought it was going to be bigger than it was. MGM Signature is now down to $299, Mirage $299, Circus Circus is at $199...They weren't holding rooms at Circus Circus for invited guests.

I actually think the problem was the way tickets were sold... 10 days before the fight is not enough time for travel plans... They should have done them right after the announcement of the fight... And only 500 for public?.. I'm sure this was based on contracts..

I'm sure MGM will be heartbroken if people pay $199 plus resort fee for Circus Circus, how can they ever keep up their bottom line like that

Point was offering places like CC for $500 a night as they did weeks ago was something MGM knew was never going to sell rooms. And believe it or not, players in MGM's database who are playing $150-200 a hand were offered CC rooms this weekend and told that's all you are going to be offered. I bet quite a few took the offer. Obviously not going to be a family friendly environment this weekend.

It's a win win for MGM and all others. They jacked up the room rates and got some people to bite. That makes up for the empty rooms, and they still come out ahead, because of less overhead now. Business 101.

It's like my mechanic, poor guy is so cheap and he works his butt off, he makes his money in volume. I told him you're silly - what you do is you jack your rate up, lose some customers, still make the same amount of money but do less work. Vegas is the same.

They jacked up their rates and started lowering them mid-week, prior to the 48 hour notice to cancel a room reservation. Sorry but those high rates being lower will cause many people to cancel their reservation prior to the 48 hour cut-off.

Pretty cool - I just found out my HOA bought the fight and is throwing a viewing party (which includes drinks and pizza). But, I've also got an invite to an MGM property - which could be more fun because of the crowd dynamics. Decisions...
