Is it me, or does this sound like a troll? I mean, it sounds like the most boring people on earth are asking if Las Vegas is too boring for them.

I am a boring person but I don't find Vegas boring at all. I guess you could only be bored if you're broke.

I agree. It feels like fishing, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I currently live with my parents and my girlfriend also lives with her parents as well. Both of us want to move in together but in California we can't afford the high apartment rental prices. In the San Fernando Valley one bedroom apartments are renting out for $2200 a month for a safe area.

My girlfriend and I are considering moving to Henderson Green Valley Ranch or Sumerlin.

Personally Id rather me and my girlfriend move to Seattle or Portland over Las Vegas.

Las Vegas seems like a suburban city that is spread out with shopping malls and supermarket strip centers. It seems the the Strip is mainly for tourists and locals don't go there.

Whats attracting me and my girlfriend to las vegas is affordable apartment rental prices.

What is the Las Vegas job market like?

Currently I'm going to trade school at night for computer tech. Back in 2004 I got a BA in radio-tv-film. My girlfriend works with adults with disabilities.

Due to your current situation I'd recommend not moving to Las Vegas until you complete your current education and you both have jobs lined up here. LA is close enough to LV to apply and commute for interviews until you get something.

Out of your options listed I would want LV too. It's close to both families but far enough away to be out on your own and you have connections here. My husband and I are like you in that we don't drink, gamble or do the clubbing scene and I still find the options for things to do in LV overwhelming at times. There are so many interesting things here competing for my time that it's hardly boring. You just have to start exploring.

I'm always confused by people who think there isn't culture here. It's here. It's just unique to the region and it's also proportionate to the population.

I know you're going to computer tech school but what area of RTF did you pursue and did you work in the business after school? Out of curiosity what school did you get your degree from and what happened there in LA with that? Did you just decide it wasn't for you? I'm curious because that's a major media hub. I know editors there making 6 figures. One of them just got married in Palm Springs to a producer.

If you're not entirely out of the business and looking to transition here are some networking and job information links for you.

Nevada Film Group
Las Vegas Film Jobs
National Film Alliance

Las Vegas Film Festival, facebook page
Vegas Indie Film Fest
Nevada International Film Fest
The list goes on for film fest organizations...

From what I've read on CD these are the audio visual employers for events that are big here: Freeman and their subsidiary Encore, National?, LMG, and more.

Then here are local news stations which you can get into using your former degree. These are TV stations. I haven't included radio stations. There are many more broadcasting companies in Las Vegas to choose from as LV is market # 32. A lower market may be easier to get your foot in the door than LA which is at market #2 or NYC being market #1, but you probably already know that. Though most people don't start their careers in news in the top 50 markets, or even the top 100, but the nature of the business is changing these days.

I can't speak to what your girlfriend does for work because I'm not sure specifically if it's healthcare, education, social work, government or another field.

Great advice

I got my ba degree from California state university Northridge in radio tv film.

I tried to work in that field but it's unrealistic and very competitive.

Is it because the market is saturated? What kind of work did you try to do there? Was it studio work on any of the lots or independent production work? Did you try any additional training programs such as the Director programs for TV production?

As for computer work in LV that field is broad and wide. Without getting into what you're training for it might be more beneficial for yourself to try doing a search with the job title of what you're going for in a job search engine. From there you can see what is available and then research those LV companies to work for, pay rates, benefits, ect. If you have further questions about an employer in specific then come back and make an inquiry here and you may have a more informative response from the locals.

The market is very very competitive. I wanted to work in radio advertising or media marketing. I gave up.

For the past 10 years I have only been able to get retail work as jobs.
